Amidst chaos over the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, as well as questions about President Joe Biden’s viability as a candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris’s potential as his replacement, the vice president herself will be coming to Indianapolis July 24 to address members of historically Black sorority Zeta Phi Beta.

With this trip, Harris aims to address “key constituencies” such as Black Americans and women, according to a media advisory from the vice president’s office. An Instagram post from the sorority states she will discuss steps the Biden administration is taking to improve American lives and invest in underserved communities.

Harris’s speech is part of Zeta Phi Beta’s Grand Boulé, a conference that will take place July 23-28. The vice president spoke at a similar sorority event in Indianapolis last July.

Harris has been in the news frequently as a potential presidential candidate since many Democrats were dismayed with Biden's performance at the June 27 presidential debate. Biden has insisted he’s staying in the race but calls for him to step aside are continuing to grow.

At this week’s GOP convention, several Republican lawmakers and advisers focused criticism on Harris, showing preparations for a potential change.
