    Should Newt Gingrich drop out?

    When Newt Gingrich was on a roll last month, he urged Rick Santorum to drop out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination, and endorse Newt as the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney. Now it's Gingrich's turn to be nudged aside. The conservative National Review has issued a call for Gingrich to end his now-struggling campaign and get behind Santorum, who has shot to the top of some national polls after trouncing Romney in three nominating contests last week. Gingrich says it's "silly" to suggest he should quit, and insists that he fully expects to bounce back in the polls. Is Newt right to stay in, or is backing Santorum the best way for him to foil Romney?

    Newt should quit: "Fairly soon, Newt won't have a choice," says Rick Moran at The American Thinker. "His money sources are drying up, and he has little to compete with on Super Tuesday" on March 6. If he stays in, Newt will just continue scoring in the low teens or single digits in the next several contests. So why "shouldn't Newt take his own advice and help Santorum become the nominee by consolidating conservative support behind one candidate?" Clearly, Gingrich's own "quest is at an end."
    "NRO calls for Newt to drop out and support Santorum"

    But Gingrich is still stronger than Santorum: The National Review's anti-Newt fervor is so strong that it "overpowers mere facts," says David Weigel at Slate. Gingrich has 29 delegates to Santorum's three, and the former House speaker still leads his surging, socially conservative rival by 260,000 popular votes. The "Santorum surge" is based on media coverage of his recent success in non-binding caucuses and the fact that nobody has gone negative on him ... yet.
    "National Review to Newt: Drop dead"

    Love him or hate him, Newt's not going anywhere: Gingrich might really "think that once the debates start back up he'll start wowing the crowds again," says Doug Mataconis at Outside the Beltway. Or maybe he's just "doing all of this for sheer ego." But stepping aside and letting "the likes of Rick Santorum" eclipse him would not be "a Gingrich-ian move." He's more likely to stick around "as long as he can, drawing off votes, donations, and supporters, and tossing verbal grenades" at his rivals until the bitter end.

      "Washington is Broken"

      Speaker Gingrich is having a tough time because it is "We the People" the "Working Class People" that are behind the message that "Washington is Broken". And "We the People" are tired, weary, losing our jobs, losing our homes, paying more at the pumps, paying more in the grocery stores, and we dont have the big money to fund a movement as big as taking on the big political machine which is currently alive and well in Washington.

      Speaker Gingrich can't get big wig politicians behind him because they fear the change. Politicians dont want thier filty little paws unclintched from the big political money machine in Washington. They want to continue spending on blank checks. They want to keep being paid to get absolutely nothing done. Why would anyone think for a second that they would get behind the one person who threatens the future of thier backroom big deals. You wont find politicians, unions or banks going to bat for Speaker Gingrich either because they still want big deals and big money. You wont find the green groups jumping on his band wagon for the exact same reason, big money, big deals. So there is no funding coming in for Speaker Gingrich with them either.

      We are broke and They fear him. Without any funding for this huge movement, big money deals, media bias, and the political machine which "is the problem" to begin with will once again choose our candidate for us.

      "Washington is Broken" and Speaker Gingrich put his own pride on the back burner, knowing the media would skew him over his affair and divorce, but it didnt matter because Newt Gingrich has a heart and conviction to get this country back on track. And if anyone can do, Newt can because he has done it successfully in the past during troubling times.

        Gingrich is one of the reasons we got off track to begin with. The GOP's 32 years of failed economic policies and deregulation caused the financial collapse of our country.

        Unlike you I dont play the "he did this" and "she did that" childish game. "ALL" of Washington is broken. And unless someone grows a pair and takes on the big political machine like Speaker Gingrich wants to do it will just continue to be absolutely out of control. Dont sit there and act like you actual have a point here because the Democrats are equally part of the problem. And people like you that sit back and just point fingers only manage to stand in the way of change. The only ones loosing everything in this outragous corruption is We the People!
      • Dawn 3 mths ago
        Failed economic policies? Really? Under which POTUS? Because Speaker Gingrich has served under Replublican's and Democrats in numerous positions. So if you want to talk facts instead of "he did this" and "she did that", childish finger pointing. Lets get it, I'll start.

        When Speaker Gingrich was serving the unemployment rate was 4.2%.

        When Speaker Gingrich was in the house he passed the first balanced budget in a generation, leading to the repayment of over $400 billion in debt.

        With Speaker Gingrich Congress also cut taxes for the first time in sixteen years and reformed welfare, leading to over sixty percent of welfare recipients either getting a job or going to school.

        Speaker Gingrich at the helm Congress restored funding to strengthen our defense and intelligence capabilities, an action later lauded by the bipartisan 9/11 Commission.

        Speaker Gingrich's leadership helped save Medicare from bankruptcy, prompted FDA reform to help the seriously ill and initiated a new focus on research, prevention, and wellness.

        Speaker Gingrich has always voted on a conservative ticket of smaller government, pro gun rights, lower taxes, growth, jobs, freedoms, constitution, incentivizing private sector business to invent and produce products.

        Shall I continue?

      YES, no one wants this man in the White House. He is a liar, Definitely a cheat and when the country truly becomes ill, expect him to leave.
      • Last Crusader 3 mths ago
        Truly becomes ill? Where the heck have you been the last 3.5 yrs?

      Since leadership is needed; in the White House and Congress- it comes down to trust. Do you trust these guys to lead this nation? These career politicians want what previous politicians had for the last 40 years. It's centered around big business through the lobbyists. Who do you trust?

        I have to agree with ALL of the republican candidates when they say that none of them as fit to be president!
      • Robert 3 mths ago
        One problem for elections is that many people who WOULD do a good job can never be elected. The entire populace spends more time wondering if the candidate "inhaled" rather than caring about the persons actual intended goals if elected.

      Newt has been considered-twice-and rejected. Santorum is being considered now. His litmus test religious beliefs will be his downfall, Newt or no Newt. Most Americans just don't want our political leader to be a religious leader as well. The president is supposed to represent all Americans, not just those who practice a particular brand of Christianity.
      • Yo Mama 3 mths ago
        Romney hasn't brought up his religion.He dare not all the bigots come out firing.I agree with you. Religion shouldn't be an issue. Santorum has made it part of who he is. Therefore,he can be vetted on what he thinks. Just Sayin'

      News has not finished the job yet. Newt will not leave until Romney is damaged goods.

      So why "shouldn't Newt take his own advice and help Santorum become the nominee by consolidating conservative support behind one candidate?" Newt take his own advice? Are you kidding? Someone hasn't been paying much attention to Newt since, say, 1994? Living by the standards he sets for others is not exactly Newt's M.O.

      He never should have gotten in. There should be a law against slimeballs running for President. The guy is a manipulator His prime function. He never was great or even good, but just another loud mouthed Republicans with an outsized ego.
      • JT 3 mths ago
        We, don't need a law - we need educated voters. If people really cared about character, integrity, and a serious plan to turn America around, he would never have gotten a second glance from voters. If those qualities REALLY mattered, Ron Paul would be winning in a landslide.

      SANTORUM VOTING RECORD: CONSERATIVE? YOU DECIDE!
      *** Padding his own wallet as a corporate lobbyist at the expense of taxpayers;
      *** Voting to RAISE the debt ceiling five times;
      *** Voting to DOUBLE the federal Department of Education;
      *** Voting with liberals like Ted Kennedy on multiple occasions in support of Big Labor's radical agenda;
      *** Urging more federal involvement in housing with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac;
      *** Voting to create a brand new, unfunded entitlement, Medicare Part D, the largest expansion of entitlement spending since President Lyndon Johnson - creating $16 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities;
      *** Endorsing liberal Big Government RINOs like Arlen Specter over conservatives. Of course, Specter later became a Democrat and worked hand-in-glove with President Obama to pass his radical agenda;
      *** Voting for Sarbanes-Oxley, which imposed dramatic new job-killing accounting regulations on businesses;
      *** Supporting raising taxes on oil companies, which directly costs Americans more money out of their pockets at the gas pump;
      *** Voting for gun control;
      *** Voting to give Social Security benefits to illegal aliens, while voting against an additional 1,000 border patrol agents;
      *** Voting to give $25 million in foreign aid to North Korea;
      *** Voting to send hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood - the nation's largest provider of abortion – and to hand out hundreds of billions of dollars in foreign aid to enemies of Israel
      But unlike the other establishment candidate, Willard Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum isn't even trying to sweep his Big Government record under the rug.
      I VOTE NEWT IN 2012—THE ONLY CANDIDATE THAT DID WHAT HE SAID HE WOULD!

      That depends... is Newt a repugnant, adulterous married three times, sanctimonious, hypocritical, lying, obese, pseudo-intellectual, unlikable, and unelectable old white windbag? Then of course not! He represents the Republican Party perfectly!
    • Kssenior  •  3 mths ago
      The question seems irrelevant....the voters will decide...Newt is as much on his own Moon Base as is his idea about it....If he would ever chance to get the Nomination his a... would be wiped. If conservatives really would vote strongly for Newt they are making a lie of their entire "social" conscience....which may be the case anyhow.

    • really  •  3 mths ago
      NO. He shouldn't drop out. I am sure he has many more things to say that will amuse me no end. Otherwise, the Republican race to the convention will become extremely boring, so hang in there Newt.
