Next iPhone's A9 Chip to Be Made by Samsung (Report)

iPhone 6s to Get Serious Selfie Upgrade (Report)

Samsung and Apple have the biggest rivalry in the smartphone market, but that hasn't stopped the two companies from playing nice behind the scenes. The Korean electronics company will reportedly manufacture the Apple A9 processor, which is likely to power the next generation of iPhones and iPads.

According to Bloomberg, Samsung will begin manufacturing the A9 chip in South Korea. Samsung has provided the CPU for iPhones as recent as 2013's iPhone 5s, though Apple opted to work with a Taiwan-based rival for the A8 chip that powered the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

The A9 processor will likely power this fall's iPhone lineup, which could consist of spruced-up versions of the iPhone 6. Apple is rumored to be working on an iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, which may pack improved cameras, more memory and could utilize the pressure-sensitive Force Touch technology found on Apple's new 12-inch MacBook.

Apple is also expected to release a more cost-friendly iPhone 6C, which would bring back the 4-inch display of the iPhone 5 and run on last year's A8 processors.

Based on Apple's track record, a new iPhone launch in September is all but guaranteed. The next iPhone faces its stiffest competition yet from Samsung's new Galaxy S6, which soundly beat the Apple's flagship in our S6 vs iPhone 6 face-off.
