Nexus 5 stock update: Kiss the 16GB black version goodbye, other models scarce

How to guarantee your Android phone isn’t spying on you

Bad news, Nexus fans: if you haven’t already ordered a new Nexus 5 smartphone, you’re not getting one anytime soon. Google released the Nexus 5 on October 31st and inventory for initial shipments was depleted within hours. Shipping times continued to slip, and understandably so — in our review, we called the Nexus 5 the only Android phone hardcore Android fans should care about this holiday season, and in a follow-up we said it’s an unprecedented value. As of Tuesday morning, the black 16GB Nexus 5 model is completely sold out. “We are out of inventory. Please check back soon,” Google said on the Play store, giving no indication of when the handset might be back in stock. New orders placed for the 16GB white model ship in 4-5 weeks, the 32GB black model ships in 2-3 weeks and the 32GB white model ships by November 26th. Google doesn’t share sales numbers though, so we may never know if sales have been as strong as they seem or if supply is just extremely light.
