NFL Roundup: Lions' Burleson breaks arm in crash

Detroit Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson broke his arm in two places in a single-car accident early Tuesday.

The team confirmed the accident in a statement. According to the Detroit Free Press, Burleson wrecked his vehicle when he became distracted by a pizza falling off the passenger seat.

"Nate Burleson was involved in a one-car accident overnight," the statement read. "Burleson suffered a broken arm and will undergo surgery today. Police confirm there was no alcohol involved."

Burleson was returning to his home after watching Monday Night Football with teammates and suffered no other injuries. Coach Jim Schwartz said Burleson broke both bones in his forearm. His surgery is scheduled for Wednesday.

---Dallas Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer likely needs microfracture knee surgery and is expected to miss the rest of the season, owner Jerry Jones told KRLD radio on Tuesday.

Spencer, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on July 25 and was limited throughout training camp, said last week that he suffered a setback in his rehab as he was held out of the Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams. Spencer played 34 snaps against the Kansas City Chiefs. He missed all of training camp and the season opener.

Meanwhile, defensive lineman Drake Nevis signed with the Cowboys, who waived backup defensive tackle Jerome Long. Nevis, a third-round pick in 2011 of the Indianapolis Colts, was released by the San Diego Chargers last week.

---When the Chicago Bears return to practice Wednesday, cornerback Charles Tillman might be a spectator. But when the Bears take the field Sunday at Ford Field in Detroit, coach Marc Trestman believes Tillman will be on the field to battle All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson.

Tillman went out in the second half Sunday with groin tightness against Pittsburgh. Knee soreness kept him out of practice the previous week. Trestman said Tillman could have returned to the game if needed and expects him to be available for practice this week.

---Roughly 12 hours after leaving Monday night's loss at the Denver Broncos with a concussion, Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor said he's feeling fine.

"Im ready to go," he tweeted. "I feel great by the way! Thanks for the concern ! Go Raiders!"

Pryor took a hard hit in the fourth quarter by Broncos linebacker Wesley Woodyard on a second-and-goal run at the Denver 6-yard line, losing 2 yards on the play. Pryor remained in the game for two more plays, but Matt Flynn replaced him for the Raiders' final drive in the 37-21 loss.

---The Buffalo Bills re-signed defensive tackle Jay Ross on Tuesday, two weeks after he was originally released to fill the void created when Adam Carrington was placed on injured reserve with a torn quadriceps tendon.

Ross was released as the result of a numbers crunch when cornerback Johnny Adams was promoted from the practice squad. He spent the offseason with the team and has been active for one NFL game in his three seasons since graduating from East Carolina. Ross spent parts of both 2011 and 2012 shifting between the Bills' practice squad and active roster.

There was no word on whether Ross would be active for Sunday's game against Baltimore. Corbin Bryant is expected to pick up most of the snaps in Carrington's absence.

---The Kansas City Chiefs promoted guard Rishaw Johnson to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and waived linebacker Josh Martin, the team announced Tuesday.

The Chiefs signed the 6-foot-3, 313-pound Johnson to their practice squad after he was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 31.

---The San Francisco 49ers elevated cornerback Darryl Morris to the 53-man active roster and added linebacker D'Aundre Reed to the practice squad, the team announced Tuesday.

Morris likely was promoted as insurance in case cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against Indianapolis, is unable to play.

Reed is a pass rusher who could provide depth in the absence of suspended defensive end Aldon Smith, who is out for an indefinte period on the non-football injury list.

---The Miami Dolphins signed defensive tackle Marvin Austin and placed defensive tackle Vaughn Martin on injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday.

The Dolphins were without defensive tackle Paul Soliai last Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons and the acquisition of Austin signals that he could be out longer. Austin was one of several defensive tackles who had a tryout last week in Miami.

Austin spent the past two seasons with the New York Giants (2011-12), playing in eight games and logging five tackles in 2012. He suffered a torn pectoral muscle and did not play in 2011 after the Giants selected him in the second round of the draft that year.

---The Indianapolis Colts signed free agent defensive end Lawrence Guy and offensive tackle Xavier Nixon.

Nixon was signed off the practice squad of the Washington Redskins. To create room on the 53-man roster, the Colts waived wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers and running back Kerwynn Williams.

Guy rejoins the Colts, who waived him after the preseason finale against Cincinnati. He spent the 2012 season with Indianapolis after being signed from the Green Bay practice squad on Sept. 3, 2012. Guy totaled 21 tackles (15 solo) and one sack in nine games.
