NH House speaker: Sen. Kelly Ayotte would be great VP pick
New Hampshire Speaker of the House William O’Brien told The Daily Caller that Mitt Romney would be “making a good selection” if he chose Sen. Kelly Ayotte as his running mate.
“I think she would be a good selection for Gov. Romney,” O’Brien, a Republican, said in an interview Thursday. “She’s a really capable individual.”
“Obviously, me being speaker and her as a U.S. senator, we know each other well and we’re friends,” O’Brien said. “I knew her when I was a first term rep. and she was attorney general, and I’m always been very impressed with her.”
But, he added, “My sense is that for Kelly, as with me, there’s a real focus on her current job.”
Ayotte is a first-term senator, but her name is mentioned as a possible choice for Romney.
Romney, the presumptive GOP nominee for president, has been campaigning in recent weeks with potential running mates. The two campaigned together in the Granite State last week.
Ayotte dodged the question last week when asked by The Daily Caller about the vice-presidential speculation: “I have to go talk to some school kids and get my picture taken,” she said as got in an elevator.
