NHL GameCenter review

NHL GameCenter packs the essential news, standings, and stats you'd expect but bars you access to live game content like video highlights and audio commentary unless you buy a subscription. The slow, slightly awkward interface may annoy you at times.

Pros

Enough content to satisfy you: Even without a subscription, NHL GameCenter's news and especially videos featuring gorgeous goals, classic bloopers, player pranks, or wacky goal celebrations provide good entertainment.

Easy team tracking: Probably the best reason to grab this app is that it makes it easy for you to track up to five favorite teams, whose schedules, match results, rosters, and stats you can quickly view. You can also buy tickets to their games and shop for fan gear.

Ability to turn off scores: If you don't want spoilers, the app has an option in settings for hiding scores.

Cons

Eager for your money: The app welcomes you with upgrade options before you even have time to try it. Besides, the menu features a Championship Gear store before more useful submenus like draft, teams, or standings, and also promotes the NHL Shop.

Clumsy navigation: You need two taps to access most features, since the app doesn't make much use of sliding for switching between tabs and features.

Bottom Line

For hockey fans, NHL GameCenter is a must-have app, with or without the paid upgrades. It builds excitement ahead of every new game, and can also be handy in off-season, if you want to keep up with the latest news. In return for the wealth of content you're getting, though, be ready to put up with slow navigation.
