Jan 3 (The Sports Xchange) - Chicago Blackhawks forward Kris Versteeg will be out about one month with a hand injury, coach Joel Quenneville said on Saturday. Versteeg blocked a shot during the third period of the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on New Year's Day, won by the Washington Capitals 3-2. Versteeg left the game after he was hit on the left hand by a shot off the stick of Capitals forward Eric Fehr. Quenneville said it was doubtful Versteeg would require surgery. In 34 games this season, Versteeg ranks third on the team in goals (nine), assists (18) and points (27). Versteeg missed four games earlier in the season with a lower-body injury. - - - The St. Louis Blues activated forward Jaden Schwartz from injured reserve on Saturday. Schwartz, 22, has appeared in 31 games for the Blues this season, ranking third on the team with 27 points and second with 11 goals. He has missed the past seven games because of a right foot injury. - - - The Dallas Stars claimed defenseman David Schlemko off waivers from the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. Schlemko, 27, has posted four points (one goal, three assists) in 20 games played for Arizona this season. His 38 blocked shots on the season were fifth on the team. - - - The Nashville Predators recalled forwards Miikka Salomaki and Viktor Stalberg from Milwaukee of the American Hockey League and placed forward Taylor Beck on injured reserve Saturday. Beck missed the Predators' road trip because of an illness. He has four goals and four assists in 28 games this season. Salomaki, 21, has 16 points (five goals, 11 assists) and 26 penalty minutes in 29 games for the AHL's Admirals this season.
