NHL-National Hockey League roundup

Oct 29 (The Sports Xchange) - The Pittsburgh Penguins are banged up. Right wing Chuck Kobasew will miss three to four weeks because of a lower-body injury, the team announced Tuesday. On Monday, the team said defenseman Rob Scuderi is out indefinitely with a broken ankle. Kobasew was hurt during Monday's game on a check from Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Tim Gleason. Scuderi was blasted by Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Clarkson in Saturday's game. He is scheduled to have surgery this week. The Penguins, who snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Carolina, also are missing goalie Tomas Vokoun, right wing Beau Bennett and left wing James Neal. Bennett might be able to practice this week, coach Dan Bylsma said. - - - Calgary Flames defenseman Mark Giordano will miss six to eight weeks with a broken ankle, according to the team. Giordano, who already sat out three games, suffered the injury while blocking a shot in Calgary's 3-2 win against the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 21. "It's brutal. You don't want to miss any time but if you have to, you're hoping it's something not as significant as that time frame," Giordano said. "But there's nothing I can do. Now I just have to take care of it properly and get back." - - - Center Sam Gagner made his season debut for the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday after being medically cleared to return from a broken jaw. Gagner, 24, had 38 points in 48 games last season and is a focal point of the Oilers' offense. Gagner was injured by the Vancouver Canucks' Zack Kassian, who was suspended 11 games for the high-stick to Gagner's face during a preseason game. (Editing by Gene Cherry)
