NHL-National Hockey League roundup

Sept 11 (The Sports Xchange) - The Chicago Blackhawks sent forward Kris Versteeg to the Carolina Hurricanes as part of a multiplayer trade Friday. Versteeg, a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Blackhawks, was traded along with forward Joakim Nordstrom and a third-round pick in the 2017 NHL draft for defenseman Dennis Robertson, the rights to unsigned defenseman Jake Massie and a fifth-round pick in 2017. Versteeg, 29, was part of Chicago's championship teams in 2010 and 2015. He has also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers and Florida Panthers. He had 14 goals and 34 points in 61 regular-season games for the Blackhawks in 2014-15 and one goal and two points in 12 Stanley Cup playoff games. Versteeg scored at least 20 goals in four straight seasons from 2008-12. The Hurricanes averaged 2.23 goals per game last season, 27th in the league. Nordstrom, 23, has played in 54 games over parts of two seasons with the Blackhawks, with one goal and six points. He is scoreless in 10 playoff games during that span. Robertson, 24, spent last season with the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League and had three goals and 17 points in 57 games. Massie, 18, was Carolina's sixth-round pick (No. 156) in the 2015 draft. - - - A grand jury is expected to reconvene soon in the investigation involving rape allegations against Blackhawks star Patrick Kane. The Erie County district attorney's office in Buffalo, N.Y., postponed grand jury proceedings on Tuesday, a move that reportedly was related to a possible settlement between the alleged victim and Kane's attorneys. Kane's attorney, Paul Cambria, told the Chicago Tribune on Thursday that he did not know why prosecutors canceled the grand jury presentation but that the move did not come at his request. "We were informed that it (the grand jury) was rescheduled," Cambria said. Kane, 26, is accused of sexually assaulting a young woman in his Buffalo-area home in August after they met at a bar and returned there. Hamburg police and the Erie County District Attorney are involved in the investigation. No charges have been filed against Kane. - - - The Blackhawks agreed to terms with forward Marcus Kruger on a one-year contract. Kruger, 25, recorded 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 81 games with the Blackhawks last season en route to the 2015 Stanley Cup championship. He added two goals and two assists over 23 postseason games. The two-time Stanley Cup winner led team forwards with 180:01 of shorthanded time on ice in the regular season and ranked second with a 53.3 faceoff win percentage. (Editing by Andrew Both)
