Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry was suspended for four games without pay Wednesday for a late check on Wild forward Jason Zucker during Tuesday night's game at Minnesota, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced.
The fine will cost Perry, 27, approximately $115,000.
Perry received a major penalty for interference and a game misconduct at 4:21 of the second period of Anaheim's 2-1 victory after his hit on Zucker. Perry will miss games against Dallas, St. Louis, San Jose and Chicago.
In 25 games this season, Perry has nine goals and 24 points. He scored 87 goals the previous two seasons.
---Montreal Canadiens minor-leaguer Blake Geoffrion, grandson of NHL Hall of Famer Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion, is considering retirement a few months after undergoing emergency brain surgery for a skull fracture suffered in an AHL game.
Geoffrion has not played since a piece of his skull was replaced with titanium in November after a hit by Jean-Philipppe Cote of Syracuse on Nov. 9.
An ESPN report on Twitter earlier Wednesday said Geoffrion, 25, had retired. Not true, said his father, Danny, a former NHL player. He said his son called the Canadiens' organization to let the team know he would make a decision on his future in the next few weeks.
Geoffrion, a forward, was the 56th overall pick by Nashville in the 2006 draft. He played college hockey at Wisconsin and won the Hobey Baker Award in 2010. "I love the game of hockey more than anything and this decision tears me up inside," he told ESPN.com. "But we are talking about my brain."
---The Minnesota Wild have signed 36-year-old defenseman Brett Clark, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Clark has played in 681 career games with Montreal, Atlanta, Colorado and Tampa Bay. Last season, he saw action in 82 games with the Lightning and had 15 points.
Clark will need to pass a physical before he joins the team, perhaps as early as Thursday, the Star Tribune reported. He's expected to provide defensive depth.
