"American Idol's" judges' panel is in the news again with a report claiming that Mariah Carey was almost replaced by past judge Jennifer Lopez mid-season - but Mariah's husband, Nick Cannon, says his superstar wife isn't worried.
"Whatever happens with that show, I think she's had a great time," Nick told Access Hollywood, when asked about The Hollywood Reporter's story about the rumored-but-never-happened panel shakeup.
"But she's a global superstar. I don't think she's ever in need of a job," the "America's Got Talent" host continued.
"She made a decision to do that show because she really wanted to connect with the contestants," he added. "I don't think she's thinking about the future of it."
THR's reporter Shirley Halperin (who penned the story) told Access that Mariah said she'd fight any attempt to remove her.
"I think she fired off a very terse legal letter saying that should she be pushed out they would irreparably damage her career and then the idea was scrapped," she told Access.
A rep for Mariah said, "No truth to this at all."
According to Halperin, the show's ratings are to blame for the attempt to shuffle the panel.
"It is very serious this has been the lowest rated year of 'Idol' since the beginning, since it launched in 2002," she told Access. "So dramatic downfalls require dramatic action."
Additionally a rep for Fox slammed the report.
"This is just another ridiculous 'Idol' judge rumor, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale," the Fox rep told Access.
A source told Access that J.Lo (who has a new album drops this summer and her new single "Live It Up" is coming next month) is in negotiations to perform on the season finale of "Idol."
Fremantle Media, the production company behind "Idol," had no comment when contacted by Access.
