Nintendo Reveals New Transparent 2DS Models

Nintendo has revealed two new custom 2DS designs that are set to launch across Europe on November 7.

The Nintendo 2DS Transparent Red and Nintendo 2DS Transparent Blue boast semi-transparent shells which reveal the handheld's innards. Both will ship on November 28 to mark the release of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire.

Each system will feature a 4GB memory card with Pokémon Omega Ruby (or Alpha Sapphire) pre-installed. Images of the handheld can be found below:

Nintendo does not issue UK retail prices for its games and consoles, but standalone 2DSes tend to sell for about £110.

The 2DS is a basic version of Nintendo's popular handheld, eschewing the stereoscopy and presenting both screens on a flat slate. These changes make the 2DS cheaper to manufacture, of which some of the savings are passed onto the consumer.

Meanwhile, Nintendo has also revealed it will be offering limited demo codes of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. Players can pick up codes from retailers such as Game, Amazon, Smyth Toys Superstores, ShopTo, and online at the Nintendo UK Official Store. These codes will be available from October 15th all they way up to launch.

Nintendo routinely releases new redesigned versions of its handheld. Since the 3DS first released in August 2012, Nintendo has shipped more than sixty different versions, from basic color variations to more elaborate and unique designs.

Many of these designs are exclusive to a certain region in the west, typically either Europe or the US, though most are eventually released in Japan. A full guide to each version can be found here.
