Where to Pre-Order Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch is almost upon us. Nintendo's much-anticipated hybrid gaming console is launching on March 3 for $299, and if you want to be one of the first to experience the next generation of Mario, Zelda and more, you can already place a pre-order at select retailers.

Major retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy and Target all have pre-order pages up for the Nintendo Switch, though the system has been going in and out of stock online. GameStop has reportedly sold out its initial allotment of the console, with no word as to when the Switch will be available again at the popular games retailer.

Your best bet is to check your local retailer in person — Walmart still has the Switch in-stock at its physical locations, and you might have similar luck at your nearest Best Buy or Target. If you're in the New York City area, we suggest keeping an eye on the Nintendo NY Twitter account to see when the company's flagship store will have the system back in stock.

The Nintendo Switch is a hybrid games console that you can play on your TV and also take on the go, thanks to a built-in display and a set of detachable controllers. The system is launching with the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with heavy hitters such as Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe all set to follow later this year. Third-party highlights so far include Minecraft, FIFA and The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim.

The console will support a myriad of peripherals that you can already pre-order, including a $40 carrying case and a $8 strap that keeps the Joy-Con attached to your wrist for motion-controlled games. Additional sets of Joy-Con controllers will run you $80, while the more traditional Pro Controller will cost $70.

Based on our hands-on impressions, the Nintendo Switch is a fantastic piece of hardware that feels great to play in both portable and console mode — though its initial game lineup is a little thin. We're eager to spend more time with the Switch as its March 3 release gets closer, to stay tuned for our full review.
