NJ down to 16,000 without power

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Five days after severe thunderstorms slammed into southern New Jersey, some 16,000 homes and businesses are still without electricity.

Atlantic City Electric crews have been restoring power nonstop since the storm hit early Saturday. The utility is a unit of Pepco Holdings Inc.

At the peak of the outage, 206,000 power customers in New Jersey were going without electricity.

The utility company says all customers should have power back by sometime Friday.

Meanwhile, conditions are still harsh for those without power. Forecasters expect high temperatures to remain in the 90s every day through Sunday.
