NJ homeowners hit by Sandy can now apply for grants to rebuild and stay in damaged areas
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey is now accepting applications from homeowners seeking grants to rebuild homes damaged by Superstorm Sandy.
The grants are part of $1.8 billion in the first round of federal aid sent to New Jersey to deal with costs not covered by insurance or other programs.
Homeowners can get up to $150,000 to cover the costs of elevating or rebuilding primary homes. They can also get up to $10,000 to stay in communities affected by the storm last year.
The applications are accepted starting Friday.
