Nokia exec puts Samsung on notice, says to fear the next-gen Lumia

Sure, Samsung (005930) has spent most of this year crushing its competition in smartphone channel sales, but that doesn’t mean its competitors plan to curl up and die quietly. Nokia (NOK) sales chief Chris Weber put out a boastful tweet on Wednesday telling Samsung to “take note” because the “next-generation Lumia” is “coming soon.” Given that the first-generation Lumia didn’t exactly conquer the world, it seems somewhat questionable for Nokia to taunt a company that has launched several hits this year including the Galaxy Note and Galaxy S III. The Verge writes that such a boast either “conveys a confidence that’s either backed up by what he’s seen behind closed doors or inflated by Nokia’s desperation to deliver a truly market-leading device.”

Rick Perry, the Texas governor and 2012 "oops" presidential candidate, is spending the beginning of this week in Connecticut. Perry, as the governor of Texas, has little on-its-face reason to be in Connecticut. Except, of course, for one: Texas's unemployment rate, which at 6.4 percent in April is significantly lower than the national average, is still not quite ideal. Perry wants to bring jobs to his state. And, as he sees it, some of those jobs could come from Connecticut.
