North Dakota university locked down after audit

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Several hundred Dickinson State University students were told to get to their dorm rooms or get off campus as the university was locked down Friday afternoon.

The Bismarck Tribune reports university president D.C. Coston had called a student meeting to talk about revelations that many international students received degrees without meeting requirements.

The students were crowded in a room when Coston took the microphone about 1 p.m. and told students to leave the auditorium immediately and get to their rooms or go off campus.

A statement sent to students says the alert was due to a person missing for six hours and believed to have a weapon.

The Dickinson Press reports the campus evacuation that was in place has since been lifted.

This whole story makes no sense at all. A lock down for an Audit? Then someone missing with a weapon? #$%$ poor writing all around. What has happened with getting a full accurate story using the "who, what, when & why" principles?

TY, the author is a wreck and the dreck of an article should never have seen the light of day. I got the real story from a different news source

Do you suppose the author was "educated" at Dickinson State U?

It would be nice if they had the news right. It was locked down because a dean was missing and had a gun, he shot himself. The part about the international students and degrees was a whole separate thing, on top of all sorts of other things that uni did like lie about number of students to get more federal aide.

Yeah the story didn't make any sense as written. I think the person that wrote it was one of those people that got a journalism degree without meeting the requirements.

I was thinking the same thing. why would a school be locked down because of an audit. unless they wanted to search the school for other things while they had the students in one room. without a warrant of course.

If I read a professional sounding story written by a so called "journalist" today, that would be news itself...

      Talk about a cryptic headline.

That had to be the dumbest news article I have ever seen. What the hell is going on?

The American police state mentality has even reached colleges. Get to your rooms little children.

AUDIT: the new term for investigation. however, i for one would like to see how the FBI 'audits' murder and other serious crimes
    • Edward V. Solomon  •  Cable, Wisconsin  •  3 mths ago
Probably not. More like a cover story for govt records raiding in an effort to hide that the people who got the degrees are now working in govt jobs including the NAEC and the FBI. Can you say infiltration?

Just what you would expect from a liberal school with liberal profs.
      • chuck 3 mths ago
evidently .... you have never been to North Dakota... it would be impossible to label it as liberal... and your statement could not be called "truth"
    • Cody  •  3 mths ago
Obama attended this university and so did all his liberal puppets. The U of M is the same way. People being admitted with 2.0 grade av and graduating from Law school. Pathetic~
      • chuck 3 mths ago
I suppose you would never be able to list a shred of evidence to back up your assertion... of course the rich get in that way, but no average Joe could

(AP) DALE WETZEL is apparently one of those who failed to actually get a degree

      Even from elementary school

It isn't doing anyone any favors to cheat on degree requirements. They are paying money for these degrees, and it s unfair to them as well as the other students to cut corners. This kind of thing should be examined carefully at all colleges. Also colleges should get out of the sports business and concentrate on academics.

Pay monry, get a diploma. That's how it is these days in most learning institutions.

the story neglects to mention that it was due to an audit that the facts of the situation with the foreign students has come to light.... in the modern world, any one with a keyboard is considered a journalist... take nothing at face value... research what you read from all sides ... even those you disagree with and you will find the truth... do not listen to the corporate news talking heads, they will mislead you ... you have to work to find the truth
