Northern New England utilities prepare for outages
With high winds, significant snow, northern New England utilities prepare for storm outages
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- Electric companies across northern New England are keeping a close eye on the winter storm that's moving across the region, warning customers that power outages are likely.
Public Service Company of New Hampshire, a unit of Northeast Utilities, spent Wednesday pre-staging its line and tree crews across the state while arranging for outside crews to come in as well. Parts of the state are expected to pick up eight to 16 inches of snow, with freezing rain and sleet mixing in near the Seacoast.
In Vermont, Green Mountain Power says nearly 40 contract line workers from as far away as Ontario will join with its line workers and tree trimmers to work on restoration efforts when power goes off.
More than 34,000 Green Mountain customers lost power in Vermont during a storm last week.
