National Guacamole Day

For guacamole aficionados, there's nothing better than a perfectly ripe avocado carefully mashed together with some tomatoes, onion, garlic and lime. From there you're on your own to create your personal guacamole favorite. Recipe variations include cilantro, chili pepper and even pineapple!

Although you may suspect that guacamole originated with the Spaniards, it is actually a creation of the Aztecs. When Spaniards met up with the Aztecs during the 16th century, the Aztecs were already making a concoction they called ahuaca-mulli, which translates to "avocado-mixture." It contained mashed avocados, tomatoes and onions.

Today is "National Guacamole Day," which is the perfect excuse for you to whip up a batch of your favorite recipe tonight. Don't have a recipe? No problem. Give this one a try from Yahoo! Shine:

Clean out Your Refrigerator Day

Cleaning out the fridge is perhaps one of the most commonly neglected of all household chores. Do you know what's on the far left of the bottom shelf in your fridge? Well, today's the day to buck it up and get it done, because it's "Clean out Your Refrigerator Day!"

Loosen Up, Lighten Up Day

Has anyone ever told you to take a chill pill? Do you have a tendency to react strongly to things others think are insignificant? Then today is a great day for your mental and physical health. It's "Loosen Up, Lighten up Day!"

Because stress can dangerously impact your health, the Mayo Clinic recommends keeping a close eye on your body for telltale signs. They can include headache, chest pain, fatigue, insomnia and anxiety. Some natural ways to loosen up and lighten up are to exercise, meditate, do yoga or take a warm bath.

National Pickle Day

Pickles are another one of those things people tend to either love or hate. I happen to be a lover. Sour, sweet, savory or hot, I've never met a pickle I didn't like. One of my favorites is the super salty green mango pickle from India that includes lemons, lotus root and jackfruit, along with a variety of Asian spices.

If lotus root pickles sound interesting, what about deep-fried pickles or peanut butter with pickles? You can celebrate "National Pickle Day" by trying something new. Check out these ideas on Yahoo! Shine.
