    Novato gana concurso internacional de escupir huesos de cerezas

    EAU CLAIRE, Michigan, EE.UU. (AP) — La esposa de Ronn Matt lo impulsó a entrar al Campeonato Internacional de Escupir Huesos de Cerezas que se realiza cada año en el sureste de Michigan.

    Y fue una buena idea alentarlo, porque el hombre de Chicago, de 46 años, ganó el concurso en su primer intento y es el primer campeón en 20 años que no se apellida Krause o Lessard.

    Matt escupió un hueso hasta 21 metros (69 pies) de distancia en la granja Tree-Mendus Fruit cerca de Eau Claire, justo al norte de los límites con Indiana.

    El creador del concurso, Herb Teichman comenzó el torneo casi en la clandestinidad hace poco menos cuatro décadas. Ahora atrae a competidores de dentro y fuera de Estados Unidos y tiene seis divisiones, incluida una para dignatarios.

    Desde 1992, los miembros de la familia Krause y Lessard han dominado la competencia.

    Brian Krause, alias "Joven Revóler", de Dimondale, tiene el récord mundial con más de 28 metros (93 pies) y ganó los dos años anteriores. Pero el sábado, el hombre de 34 años sólo escupió el hueso a 15 metros (52 pies).

    Su padre, Rick Krause, alias "Perdigón de Revólver", quedó segundo con una distancia de 18,6 metros (61,2 pies). Matt Krause, hermano de Brian, se ubicó tercero al escupir el hueso hasta 18,2 metros (60 pies).

    Es costumbre que el torneo coincida con el inicio de la cosecha de cerezas, pero la vocera de la competencia Lynne Sage dijo que debido al inusual calor de primavera, los frutos fueron ya recogidos. La competición de este año se realizó bajo temperaturas sofocantes.
