David Beckham's Father Sues for Phone Hacking

The latest high-profile (or, maybe mid-profile) lawsuit to hit News International over the News of the World hacking scandal comes from the father of soccer superstar David Beckham, who filed a complaint in London on Thursday, but it's unclear whether his soccer superstar son was involved.

The details of Ted Beckham's allegations are scarce: The Guardian's Josh Halliday tweets that he sued both the News of the World publisher and soccer player-turned-private-investigator Glenn Mulcaire. David Beckham has said News of the World tried to hack his phone for much of the past decade, but while he threatened to sue, he apparently didn't file a complaint -- or at least it hasn't been reported. There's no news yet as to whether David Beckham supports his father's decision or whether he's involved in the suit. That'll be an interesting question because as the U.K. Mirror points out, David and his dad "have had a tumultuous relationship, with the pair reportedly falling out over Ted’s divorce from David’s mum Sandra, his general attitude towards Victoria and the book he wrote about his son’s life." News Corp. and its British newspaper subsidiary News International have already settled with Jude Law and singer Charlotte Church, among others.
