U.S. Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ) answers a phone call in Rio de Janeiro, Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009. Brazil's Supreme Court chief justice ruled Tuesday in favor of David Goldman, a U.S. citizen who has pursued a five-year court battle to gain custody of his son. Sean, Goldman's son, was taken to Brazil in 2004 by his then-wife Bruna Bianchi, who divorced Goldman and remarried before dying while giving birth to a daughter in 2008. Smith is in Rio to support Goldman's cause.
