Seventy-year-old G.H. Jinedasa poses for a photo outside the entrance to his home, provided through NGO assistance, after his first was destroyed in the 2004 tsunami, in Kathaluwa December 1, 2009. In December 2004, a magnitude 9.15 quake off the coast of Indonesia's Aceh province triggered an Indian Ocean tsunami that killed around 226,000 people in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and nine other countries. The stunning television pictures of a phenomenon few people had ever seen, and the sheer scope of the disaster, prompted an unprecedented outpouring of charity across the world.
