A woman watches a YouTube clip of Scottish singer Susan Boyle on television programme "Britain's Got Talent" in April. 2009 was a lucky year for Boyle, the plain, single, unemployed 48-year-old from Scotland whose performance of "I Dreamed a Dream" from "Les Miserables" catapulted her from a British talent show to global sensation.
