Canadian geese approach unoccupied kayaks and a paddleboat on the shore of Lake Tahoe, Thursday, June 28, 2007, in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. An unusually dry winter kept ski resorts near Lake Tahoe starved of snow, and wildfires darkened skies on the brink of the summer season July 4 kickoff. Fire and ice haven't been kind to the fabled resort region this year.
