NY judge: Iran, Taliban, al-Qaida liable for 9/11

NEW YORK (AP) — A federal judge has signed a default judgment finding Iran, the Taliban and al-Qaida liable in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Judge George Daniels in Manhattan signed the judgment Thursday, a week after hearing testimony in the 10-year-old case. The signed ruling, which he promised last week, came in a $100 billion lawsuit brought by family members of victims of the attacks. He directed a magistrate judge to preside over remaining issues, including fixing compensatory and punitive damages.

Daniels signed findings of fact saying the plaintiffs had established that the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks were caused by the support the defendants provided to al-Qaida. The findings also said Iran continues to provide material support and resources to al-Qaida by providing a safe haven for al-Qaida leadership and rank-and-file al-Qaida members.

During last week's open-court hearing, family members of Sept. 11 victims sat through a four-hour presentation from attorneys who cited evidence supporting their claims that Iran actively assisted the hijackers of planes that crashed into the World Trade Center towers, at the Pentagon and into a field in Pennsylvania. Former members of the 9/11 Commission and three Iranian defectors also spoke.

It would be near impossible to collect any damages, especially from the Taliban or al-Qaida.

Iran has not commented on the ruling. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly denied any Iranian connection in the Sept. 11 attacks or with al-Qaida. Saudi Arabia had been knocked out of the lawsuit, but lawyers filed papers on Thursday to reinstate Saudi Arabia as a defendant.

Lawyers for the plaintiffs did not immediately return telephone calls seeking comment.

This is total #$%$ Iran was the only country before 9/11 that funded the Northen Alliance to defeat Taliban/Al Quada in Afghanistan. Looks like an excuse to invade Iran now that we're out of Iraq.

The enemy of my enemy and all that... I don't know if you've been paying attention or not, but the game board has been changed from 15 years ago.

And one excuse is as good as the other...

Time to start more new lies and another war.All the unemployed volunteer soldiers have to earn a living and the industrialists have to produce more guns and bullets in order to kill more helpless civilians.Isn't great to be in the ARMS BUSINESS?

LMAO! So now Iran had something to do with 9/11? I guess people still believe Iraq had something to do with 9/11 as well? Truth be told ALMOST every hijacker was from Saudi Arabia, but we won't dare sue them because about 20% of our oil comes from them. The ignorance from people of power in the US is sometimes mind blogging.

Some people made lots of money by invading Iraq, you know who they are! They don't have to work anymore.

        I sometimes wonder.
If a common man murders/attacks somebody, plans a murder/attack, entices others to murder/attack, gives false evidence etc he/she will be immediately arrested, tried and hanged or otherwise killed or made a state guest for life with food, medicine and ofcourse a 8x10 cell.
But when politicians do it as a class and cause thousands of their own citizens to be killed and kill tens of thousands of others nothing happens to them except they become rich, have pensions and dream benefits for life.
When would people realize that every human being that was killed because of a conspiracy or a lie, had a mother who sacrificed so much of her life, suffered so much to bring up a child has now been condemned to suffer for rest of her life.

Still living in imposed dreams of fantasy over ludicrous conjectures a political production of a BBC "The Power of Nightmares," attempt at distorting the Victory of Islamic Republic of Iran, until when. To reassure oneself of the BBC evil intention against Islam in general and Islamic Iran in particular see BBC 1980 production of lies entitled "A Revolution Betrayed." Change for logic and good BBC stop propaganda of negative nature.

this judge got it wrong, Iranian involvement with al Qaida or the Taliban, both Sunni muslim organizations are, are not supported by the Shi'ite nation of Iran, but rather by the nation of Pakistan, who the whole world knows created the Taliban. And a Saudi Arabian billionaire who created the al Qaida terrorist organization. Osama bin Laden was killed in the country who gave him sanctuary, and the very same country who created and still controlls the Taliban. So wake up AMERICA and tell are leaders to do the right thing and bring to bear on PAKISTAN it's due, for Pakistan is the most prolific supporter and exporter of TERRORISM
in the world, followed by Iran.

I'll agree with the last part of your post, but not the first part, Iran is as culpable as anyone out there in promoting these pigs and their operations!! The ayatollah assaholas and the dimwitted little p rick president are the main fomenters of these cowards!! They don't believe in the 72 virgin #$%$ anymore than I do, otherwise the chicken #$%$ cowards wouldn't have to hide behind women and children to operate!! They are scared of their shadows and #$%$ their robes thinking about whar will happen when they are caught!! Pakistan is a #$%$ of a country that should be obliterated from the earth!!

I don't see Saudi Arabia in this deal---they are the single biggest bank rollers of terrorism in the world----they take Billions and Billons of petro dollars----waste it, flaunt it, back door support these Islamic terrorist groups.....where are they in this mess------they should write a 20 Billion Dollar check to rebuild the WTC then come up with the 100 Billion to settle the lawsuits----all of this other posturing is just that...Posturing----our elected officials are weak legged-hand wringers---

The Saudis aren't responsible because we want their oil. Pin the blame on a country we're angry with anyway-so none of it really matters.

So al-Qaeda which is predominately Sunni Muslims, received help from the Shia Muslim Iran? The same Sunnis and Shias currently killing each other in Iraq? If this was the case, you can't tell me all of those morons in the US State Department, Pentagon and CIA that stand around looking bored all day and don't have anything better to do with their time, didn't have the intelligence to see that Iran was responsible for 9/11 back in 2001? So Bush invades Iraq, which turned out to be the wrong country all along, no WMD's and opens it up to al-Qaeda suicide bombers, while giving Iran more time to develop a nuclear weapon and missiles from North Korea? I'm a large supporter of Israel, but I'm starting to believe Iran is being "set up" to start this new "Great War" of the 21st century. Meanwhile, comrade Barry Obama just signed the NDAA bill into law declaring Americans could be detained for any affiliations or perceived threats against national security. If they are so #$%$ concerned about terrorism, then why do they keep helping the al-Qaeda terrorists they say are responsible for 9/11? The US actually helped al-Qaeda destroy Yugoslavia during the US/NATO bombing, then helped them again in Iraq following the invasion and more recently, in Libya after Obama ordered a US/NATO bombing on the country for no reason. Is Iran really responsible now after all of these years? Or does it really have to do with the fact that the US keeps intervening in countries that were never a threat to the US and they just want to privatize the natural resources or major global corporations? I think the latter is more accurate.

please spare me the lies lies lies...if you want to get even with terrorists...try this...get our butts off of fossil fuels as quickly as possible make that our great national pastime...instead of attempting to make war on every nation with an oil pipeline. We are going to be up the creek without a paddle very soon as peak is upon us and we are heading toward a 6 degree rise in global temperature...Please wake up ELF and EARTH FIRST....everyone the time to put a green armband on to defend your planet has arrived...no matter what country you live in...as we have only FIVE YEARS to turn it around...or face most SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES!! Got it?

More lies about 9/11. Isn't it curious how exactly all the enemies of Israel are responsible for 9/11 and no one else. Youtube or google Dr. Alan Sabrosky, former Director of Studies at the U.S. Army War College.

What's the point? The victims families were each paid millions from the US Government....so they have already been paid......
And since our Government does business with some of these terrorist, maybe they should be held liable too...... liable to EVERY American. Now....where's my money?

biden must really be upset that the taliban where deemed responsible! he swears up and down that they aren't the enemy!! my god, heaven help us survive one more yr.!!

Another lie to start the a new war. Just like Iraq, first they said that Iraq had wmd, then they said that Iraq was responsible for 911 and then they start the war. Now new scenario. There's something wrong with American government. They were Arabs from Saudi Arabia. Bush should invade Saudi Arabia not Iraq. We didn't invade Saudi Arabia because they're our puppet.

Having found nothing in Iraq (except oil) the next point for attention for the neo conservatives and their yid masters would have to be the 2nd largest shallow fields of sweet crude and natural gas in the world, namely Iran.
    • JAG  •  Reno, Nevada  •  5 mths ago
So now it is Iran. Perhaps evidence like what was presented in United nations.
Whatever was said earlier about Afganistan Iraq etc was wrong. And Saudis are not at all at fault.
How much money was wasted and precious lives lost.
What is the 'Truth' and when it would be acknowledged?
