NY police: Hoffman withdrew $1K day before death
NEW YORK (AP) — Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman withdrew $1,200 in six ATM transactions in about an hour the day before he was found dead in his New York City apartment with a syringe in his arm.
Police said Tuesday bank records show the "Capote" star made the transactions inside a supermarket near his Manhattan home.
The 46-year-old actor was found dead in the bathroom of his apartment Sunday.
Law enforcement officials not authorized to talk about the evidence gathered say on condition of anonymity Hoffman was found with plastic envelopes of what's suspected to be heroin and they believe he overdosed. They say he was found with at least four dozen small packets of the drug.
Police are testing the suspected heroin to determine its purity and whether it was mixed or tainted with anything else.
