NYC apartment sells for $88 million

NEW YORK (AP) — The family of a Russian billionaire has bought a New York City penthouse apartment for $88 million.

The Wall Street Journal (http://on.wsj.com/x3NGXe ) says the property on Central Park West in Manhattan is now the most expensive apartment in New York.

The seller was Sanford I. Weill, the former head of Citigroup Inc. It was bought by a trust for the daughter of Dmitry Rybolovlev (dih-MEE'-tree rih-bah-LOHV'-lehv).

Features of the apartment include a wraparound terrace.

The Journal says the sale generated nearly $2.5 million in city and state taxes.

The brokers' commission: about $3.5 million.

    The deal closed on Wednesday.

Weill previously said he plans to donate the proceeds of the sale to charity.

Ah so the old story goes like, "Russian billionaire buys $88 million apartment". And the new story goes like, "Russian billionaire closes on $88 million apartment". Riveting.

New York is some good property but Pennsylvania Avenue is a lot better. If you can stand the wait for someone to land on it. Generally I just go with the red ones myself.

        I preferred the railroads myself.

red ones are good, but if you get all the greens and blues - it's even better.

I buy everything I land on if it's for sale. I can't recall having ever lost a game. However, I particularly like the Rail Roads.

Don't forget the additional $10000 per month to park his cars there but that's pocket change.

except that housing price in manhattan have gone up 3 folds, in the post 10 years. How is that a bad decision?
10 years down the road he will still be a multi millionaire, just because of the apartment.

I'm not a smoker nor do I live in New York state but I find it hilarious how NY state and NYC took a $5 pack of cigarettes and taxed it 200% so now it costs nearly $15 yet the tax on an $88 million apartment isn't even 3%.
      • Larry 3 mths ago
that's easy they don't want you to smoke but they do want you to live there

If you have it flaunt it. This actually creates jobs. The real estate brokers get 6% = $ 5, 280,000 commission will undoubtedly be spent of " stuff ", maybe a new car, a new house helping the housing market more, and the owner of the new 88 million home pays lots of property tax to NYC like 10% per year every year, that is 8.8 million every year which will go to city services for the needy, the owner will need staff, probably 10-15, all types of services = more jobs. All in all the rich at all levels are not all so bad, so why the class warfare. Lower economic bracket people will not be creating ONE job, pay minimal or no tax and simply absorb from the city, state and country, bringing about an increase in our deficit, which is OK......its just that on the other end of the spectrum......that's OK too. Someday, some lucky lottery winner will be THERE. Someday, someone who works hard at the bottom will rise t the top and be THERE too. No one is stopping you as long as one doesn't sit around waiting for the government to take care of you indefinitely. Sort term happens. Could happen to anyone. Dont let it become long term. That's where the problem is.
