NYC subway app available on 7 lines

NEW YORK (AP) -- There's an app now that tells New York City subway riders in real time when a train is arriving — whether they're at home, at work or on the go.

It's called MTA Subway Time. It covers 156 stations on seven subway lines — the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 lines and the 42nd Street Shuttle.

It provides the same information found on countdown clocks at those stations.

For now, it's available on iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch, and also online at http://tripplanner.mta.info/subwayTimes/template.html.

The L will be added to the app over the next 12 months; the 7 line sometime after 2016.

The technology for data feed is not yet available for its lettered lines.

The MTA already has real-time data apps for its buses, Metro-North, LIRR and bridges and tunnels.
