The NYPD Are Investigating Amanda Bynes' Sexual Harassment Claims

The New York Police Department's Internal Affairs Bureau has launched an investigation into Amanda Bynes' claim she was sexually harassed by the two officers who arrested her for throwing a bong out of a window.

The New York Post and the New York Daily News both report an internal investigation has been opened in Bynes' case. The Post reports Bynes' accused one officer of penetrating her with his finger and running they fingers up her arm. (The order in which those events occur is not stated.) These are very serious accusations that should be addressed in a respectful manner. And the accusations are coming from someone who's looked at as a bit of a loon by the media, but they should still be taken seriously. That said, the Daily News reports a building manager who witnessed the arrest doesn't back up Bynes' version of the story.

Bynes was arrested Thursday night for marijuana possession. The story goes that Bynes tried to smoke a joint in the lobby of her building when they called the cops on her. The cops arrived and she had retreated to her room at this point. They knocked, she let them in, and then realized her bong was in plain sight and tossed the thing out of a window.

On Saturday, Bynes announced her accusations against the NYPD on her Twitter account

Don't believe the reports about me being arrested. It's all lies. I was sexually harassed by one of the cops the night before last which is who then arrested me. He lied and said I threw a bong out the window when I opened the window for fresh air. Hilarious. He slapped my vagina. Sexual harassment. Big deal. I then called the cops on him. He handcuffed me, which I resisted, quite unlike any of the reports stated. Then I was sent to a mental hospital. Offensive. I kept asking for my lawyer but they wouldn't let me. The cops were creepy. The cop sexually harassed me, they found no pot on me or bong outside my window. That's why the judge let me go. Don't believe any reports.

So that's her side of the story. She also said she only smokes tobacco and doesn't drink or smoke marijuana. She added this before signing off for the night:

Believe everything I say on twitter!

There can already be some debunking done. Early reports said Bynes underwent a psych evaluation before being taken to lock-up for the night after she was arrested. Bynes claims she was taken to a mental hospital. New York Times reporter David Carr said she was taken to the Roosevelt Emergency Department at St. Luke's Thursday evening. He was also there, he says, without explaining why.
