NZ 473-7 at lunch on day 2, 1st test vs. India

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) — Brendon McCullum posted his second test double-century, leading New Zealand to 473-7 at lunch Friday on the second day of the first test against India.

The New Zealand captain was 202 not out at the break, having helped his team score 144 runs from only 24 overs in the morning session at Eden Park.

McCullum's previous double century was a 225 also made against India, at Hyderabad in 2010. He reached the milestone with a six and a four from the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja in the last over before lunch, taking 280 balls and hitting 28 fours and three sixes.

McCullum resumed the New Zealand innings Friday in partnership with Corey Anderson who added 35 runs to his overnight total of 42 in the first 10 over of the morning.

He was give out lbw to Ishant Sharma, although replays suggested the ball was angling down the leg side and would have missed the stumps. The Decision Review System is not in use in this series at India's insistence.

Anderson and McCullum added 133 for New Zealand's fifth wicket, consolidating its powerful position after McCullum and Kane Williamson had put on 221 for the third wicket.

B.J. Watling was out for just 1, driving at a wider delivery from Sharma to provide a catch to Shikhar Dhawan at third slip.

Tim Southee hurried to 28 from 21 balls with three fours and two sixes, weathering a barrage of short-pitched bowling before stepping inside a fuller ball from Mohammed Shami which bowled him.

Ish Sodhi made a brisk, unbeaten, 18 before lunch.

McCullum's batting form has been questioned in recent months but he now has a century, against the West Indies, and a double century in his past four tests.

India's bowling and fielding continued to be mediocre. Sharma provided the only sign of consistency, claiming two wickets in the first session Friday to have 4-122 at lunch.
