Oakland Port operations back to normal

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Oakland Port officials say operations are back to normal after a one-day strike blocked trucks from entering the facility.

The striking custodial and maintenance workers and dock workers who refused to cross the picket line in a show of solidarity were back at work on Wednesday. The strike also included workers at the Oakland International Airport, which is overseen by the port.

Port spokesman Isaac Kos-Read says those workers were back to work late Tuesday night.

The protest was over stalled contract talks between the custodial and maintenance workers and the port. The workers are represented by the Service Employees International Union Local 1021.

Kos-Read says the union and port officials are scheduled to hold a fact-finding meeting with a mediator next week.
