Obama in 3 key states during GOP convention

Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama will be holding campaign events in Iowa, Colorado and Virginia next week as Republicans gather in Tampa, Fla., for the GOP convention.

Obama's campaign says the president will be in Ames, Iowa, and Fort Collins, Colo., on Tuesday and Charlottesville, Va., on Wednesday. Vice President Joe Biden will be in Florida on Monday and Tuesday, including a stop in Tampa.

The events will give Obama and Biden a chance to counter Republicans during their convention.

The four states are among the most competitive states in the election. Obama won all four states in 2008 but Mitt Romney is trying to put the states in the Republican column this year.
