Obama’s Al Green rendition lands him ‘American Idol’ invite

After watching President Obama’s rendition of the Al Green song “Let’s Stay Together” during a fundraising event at the Apollo Theater, “American Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe asked him to make an appearance on the popular TV talent show, Ace Show Biz reported.

Lythgoe tweeted his desire to have the president on the show. “@BarackObama we loved your vocal performance so much we’d love to invite you on to #AmericanIdol this Season for a duet with Al Green,” he wrote.

Not only did Obama’s singing voice land him an offer from “Idol,” but it helped boost sales of the Al Green tune.

The song was downloaded 16,000 times in the week ending January 22, bringing it up 490% from the previous week.
