COMMENTARY | President Barack Obama told American employers that it's time to bring jobs back to this country to spur new job creation and reduce unemployment. It's a long overdue message that the White House has finally decided to make a centerpiece in national dialogue during an election year. And, while it's a good idea, it also fits really well into the president's re-election strategy.

Associated Press reported that Obama used his Saturday radio address to encourage American employers to return jobs that have been previously outsourced to other countries. This has long been a problem that many unemployed people like to point to as a reason for the lack of good jobs in this country. It's good the president wants to take an action and voiceful stand against the practice.

To further show his resolve, Obama will host an "Insourcing American Jobs" workshop at the White House this week to hear ideas from major businesses on returning outsourced jobs. Reuters reported the representatives from Master Lock, Lincolnton Furniture, software developer GalaxE Solutions and chemicals company DuPont would participate.

Obama's sudden interest in ending outsourcing coincides perfectly with his re-election strategy. He needs union backing and ending outsourcing will be popular with union members. He also needs to demonstrate a more aggressive resolve to lowering unemployment. By focusing on outsourcing as a problem, Obama will place more of the blame for high unemployment on big business.

Another benefit he will reap comes from workers of both parties. Outsourcing is very unpopular with those who have trouble finding a job, and is often blamed for serious job loss in this country. Any initiative by the president to reduce or end outsourcing is surely going to find support among voters in both parties - especially if he can find an immediate success story after the Wednesday huddle at the White House.

It's not often that I find an instance to praise something Obama has done with the economy, but this is definitely one of them. Good job Mr. President!

It isn't just the people who do not have jobs who are disgusted with the big corporations using outsourcing - try calling AT&T, Virgin Mobile, Cricket, T-Mobile, etc. - you will get a person from a different country with static on the line - they cannot speak in good English to be understood, refuse to tell you what country they are in, etc. - likewise with insurance companies having their work done in other countries with multiple mistakes. On and on. Here is Chicago we Real Estate Brokers had to deal with outsourcing when WE are the ones who pay the costs - nobody asked us if we agreed - we complained - the outsourcing was in India and they would tell us it was the 6th office we reached - total LIES. Time to have our country back and all the of people who do not work can get a job - even if they are forced to work in lieu of being on the dole.

I don't even call support lines anymore. Last time I did, I was on the phone 15 minutes just trying to give the guy a very EASY email address that he just had to have before he could help me. I finally hanged up on him in disgust. That was Microsoft.

Just look at yourselves and what each one of you are doing. How are you spending your money? Do you pay close atention on where the item you are purchasing made from? Do you request the item to be made in the US? Do you put it back immediately if it was not made in the US? if not Do It, This is how you save and help your country. I do it every single time. Items made in china are of a poor quality and destroys not only families but the enviroment as well. Can YOU bring this country to grater times. President Obama said " Yes we can" each and every one of us owes it to our parents and grandparents who worked very hard for the better of this country. Lets not allowed cheap and poor quality merchandize being brought from other lands to destroy our economy, jobs, and families. Love your fellow men by purchasing only American made merchandize.

You must be running around naked because almost no clothing of any kind is made here. Even if you buy custom made dresses and suits, the material is made overseas.

You must walk everywhere you go. If you buy a car from Toyata, guess what, it is most likely assembled in the US, but a great number of parts are made overseas. Same goes for Ford, GM, Honda, Chrysler, etc.

You must grow your own food or buy from a local farmer's market. Go to the grocery store and try to find fresh produce not grown in Mexico.

If I have to send a package I use the postal service not Fed-ex or ups. When I shop i avoid Walmart like the plague and try to support small businesses. Avoiding stuff made in China is tricky though when it comes to clothes and household appliances. If you know of made in USA labels please post them. I am also careful about where I buy food. I shop at a small chain that uses locally grown produce.

That's what it is all about and nothing more. You can all count on that. It is and has always been about Obama. He will go to any lengths to get votes. I'm sure as he said this many of America jobs were being shipped out . Business as usually.
Just more lies! Do not believe Obama he is not telling the truth are never has.

EVERYONE has hidden agendas. including IT'S A SLOW FADE'S CAMPAIGNING COMMENT, YOUR FAMILY DOCTOR ADVOCATES FOR MEDS TO RECIEVE COMPENSATION FROM BIG DRUG COMPANIES(samples, posters doctors recommendations), OBAMA SHOULD'VE DONE THIS , OBAMA SHOULD'VE DONE THAT,or OBAMA'S DOING THIS,and OBAMA'S DOING THAT. IT'S FUNNY HOW YOU GUYS CONVIENTLY AVOID TO REVEAL HOW YOU HAVE BENIFITED FROM OBAMA. it takes a financial manager YEARS to correct a city's financial problems, and a failing school district, and SOMEHOW OBAMA IS SUPPOSED TO FIX AN ENTIRE COUNTRY 'S SELF-INFLICTED PROBLEMS THAT HAS MOUNTING FOR MORE THAN 16 YEARS IN 4 YEARS. STOP BEING MAD AT CHINA, BE MAD AT GREEDY AMERICANS WHO SENT YOUR JOBS OVERSEAS FOR SLAVE LABOR. AMERICA SHOULD'VE KEPT CHINA AS A BUYER, AMERICAS GREED BUILT FACTORIES , AND PLANTS TO MANUFACTURE VEHICLES ETC. TO EXPLOIT SLAVE LABOR, WHILE CHINA KNEW AMERICA WAS SHADY ,LEARNED THE GAME NOW... AMERICA IS THE BUYER !!!

I suspect Santorum would be very much like Bush. How did that work out for America? Not so well. Just in terms of economic stats (forgetting about Bin Laden, Gadhafi, the end of the Iraq war, the winding down of the Afghanistan war, the end of denials due to preexisting conditions by insurance companies, the end of sneaky rate hikes by credit card companies, etc), are we better off than we were when Bush left office? Consider:

        1. When Bush left office, the economy was shedding 750,000 jobs per month.
        2. When Bush left office, the economy was contracting at an astonishing 8.9%.
        whereas
        1. During the last 2 years, the economy has added over 2.5 million jobs at a rate of 100,000 per month.
        2. We've had 9 straight quarters of economic growth.

Now, the economy obviously isn't great now. But it would have to get a LOT worse to be as bad as it was when the last Republican president left office. People need to keep that in mind when going to the polls in November.

jobs will never come back, they are like a lost love, once it is gone, no coming back.you must keep the job while you have it, but if you lose it do you think that you will get it back ? if you lose your real love do you think it will come back once it is gone ? everything that goes never comes back, the only thing that come back are the things we do not want !

end of outsourcing = end of lobby contributions from big corp.

they should end corporate lobbying and make it only legal to lobby via constituent.. this will bring power back to the hands of the people.. not the corporations.. like it should be.

Closing Gitmo, more transparency in government, direct leader-to-leader talks with North Korea and Iran, etc., etc.

Corporate america makes money by outsourcing jobs overseas, the same corporations donate and run and influence the elections.

Does anyone in their sane mind here think the corporate america would want to insource and lose all their profits?

Just another election gimmick to muster votes from the desperates.

Obama calls end to outsourcing? Another one of Obama's dog n pony shows for an election year. He should have been calling for that all along, even while his own jobs czar (J Immelt, ceo of GE) has been taking away from Americans and sending many thousands of jobs to China. Obama's administration has intentionally gone out of the way to destroy or give away American jobs. The writer of this commentary is doing nothing more than covering for Obama's bull-chit and pandering for votes....You're being told everything they think you want to hear....as they continue to stab you in the back and destroy the nation.
    • NoVaGuy  •  4 mths ago
In asking yourself whether Obama is serious, put this to the smell test:
Who is among Obama's biggest campaign contributors?
None other than Jeffrey Immelt, honcho at General Electric, who is implementing plans to outsource operations even as we speak.

End outsourcing? #$%$ RIGHT!!! We should be creating jobs here, not in other countries. Any company that out-sources should be hit with heavy taxes and not get ANY tax breaks from the government. They should also publicize the name of every company that is laying off Americans and sending the jobs overseas and encourage people, as part of their patriotic duty, to boycott these companies.America first, then everybody else.
    • The Kid  •  4 mths ago
Yeah but where are the TEETH in Obama's call for in sourcing? I doubt there are any - just his usual rhetoric so he can get reelected.

If we used a mindful energy plan, if we quit supplementing unions with tax dollars, if we set realistic ecological goals rather than adhering to left winged extremism, if we reduced entitlements and if we used our money to develope our nation, perhaps we might see an increase in the American WORKFORCE.
    • CLARK KENT  •  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania  •  4 mths ago
Can you say TARRIF to enable the USA to compete with countries that pay their workers pennies per day?
    • dmzsgt  •  Wichita, Kansas  •  4 mths ago
He waited to even consider this until the start of the election season. THAT should be of concern to all. While the message is a good sales pitch, let us see what goes forth from it. Considering the U.S. has paid some big corporations a lot of money to help them settle and build OUTSIDE the U.S. with the idea that helping to build other countries budgets, etc., was a way to gain influence with the nation. Most of the time it has done the opposite. The big corporations gobble up whatever they can, have min.wage workers and they produce less than quality products generally. WHY WAS THIS NOT ON HIS TOP AGENDA 3 YEARS AGO?
    • Bill  •  4 mths ago
I just wonder if he has called Jeffery Immelt to the carpet and chewed him out for outsourcing while on the jobs advisory board.. Jobs brought to China from GE, it would Ronald Reagan puke.
    • RG  •  4 mths ago
      Good Job Mr President????
