Obama, French president to tour Monticello

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (AP) — President Barack Obama plans to visit Thomas Jefferson's Monticello estate next week with French President Francois Hollande.

The White House said Tuesday that Obama will mark the partnership between the U.S. and France with a tour Monday of Jefferson's Virginia residence.

Jefferson, the third U.S. president, served as U.S. ambassador to France from 1785-1789.

The White House says Monticello reflects Jefferson's affection for the people of France and the longstanding relations between the two nations.
