Obama: Russia miscalculated in Ukraine

BRUSSELS (AP) — President Barack Obama says Russia's leadership miscalculated if it thought the world wouldn't care about its actions in Ukraine. He says Russia was mistaken if it thought it could drive a wedge between the U.S. and the European Union.

Obama is speaking at a news conference with EU leaders in Brussels. He says the U.S. and Europe stand united on the issue.

Obama says Russia stood alone at the United Nations and in other global venues in defending its actions in Ukraine. He says if Russia continues with aggression in Ukraine, Russia's isolation will deepen. He's promising increased sanctions and growing consequences.

Obama says coordination between the U.S. and Europe on economic sanctions against Russia has been excellent.
