Obama to make statement on captured soldier

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says President Barack Obama will deliver a statement Saturday afternoon from the Rose Garden.

The president is scheduled to speak at 6:15 p.m. EDT.

Earlier Saturday, administration officials said that the only American soldier held prisoner in Afghanistan, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, had been released.

In return, the U.S. released five Afghan detainees who were being held at the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Obama issued a paper statement saying he had called Bergdahl's parents to tell them to expect his safe return.
