Obama Store Stocked for Black Friday: Goods Entirely ‘Made in USA’

CHICAGO – This Black Friday, count President Obama’s re-election campaign as one “retailer” fully stocked and hungry for a slice of the holiday shopping pie.

A glimpse inside the campaign store at headquarters found shelves loaded with the traditional array of screen print T-shirts, buttons, stickers and yard signs.

But there’s also plenty of non-traditional “ swag” to accompany what aides bill as a non-traditional campaign.

New arrivals include Obama-Biden branded yoga pants, basketball jerseys, golf divot tools, martini glasses, cutting boards, grill spatulas and cufflinks.

Bo Obama, the first family’s pet Portuguese Water Dog, makes a cameo appearance on a button.

Vice President Joe Biden’s face is emblazoned on a coffee mug titled “Cup of Joe.”

And a facsimile of the president’s birth certificate appears both on “Made in the U.S.A.” T-shirts and coffee mugs, poking fun at the conspiracy theorists who insist Obama was born abroad.

Campaign officials won’t reveal which are the hottest selling items, or how much revenue the sales have raised.

One thing they will say for certain is that everything on the shelves was manufactured on U.S. soil.

“If a product isn’t made here, we won’t brand it and sell it,” a campaign official said, adding that staff members have actually vetted some factories to ensure materials are made or assembled in America.

Not all the 2012 presidential candidates can make the same claim. A number of the Republican contenders have hawked goods made overseas.

I was in Toys R Us last week, looked all over the store for ONE SINGLE item Made In USA. Couldn't find one, NOT ONE! Same goes not only for the toy industry, but garment, shoe, parts, electronics, appliances, sporting goods, counter-tops, YOU NAME IT we don't make it anymore!
To me, this is the biggest problem we face as a nation! It has become a matter of National Security!
It took 30 years of trickle down, the deregulation of the financial sector that resulted in unscrupulous Wall Street practices including but not limited to the bursting of the housing bubble, corporate welfare for multi-national corporations like Exxon/Mobil, that made a record $45 billion in profits but paid $0 in USA taxes, same with GE, along with the outsourcing of 9 million of our jobs to get to this point. Ask yourself, "Who did all this benefit? And now, if you ask our wealthiest citizens who are at the fore-front of this trend, who lobbied incessantly for these privileges and who have benefitted fabulously while the rest of the USA languishes, they and the politicians beholden to them, cry foul! Class Warfare! Mostly from the GOP.
And if you turn to the Dems, hell, Obama HIRED Immelt, who employs 36,000 more Chinese than he does Americans, and intends to ship even more good paying jobs to China in the future.
Trade laws need to be amended to punish traitors to the American middle class and reward investments, but who's going to take on the big money???

I found Toys R US equally disturbing for the same reason. It is all plastic too.

Maybe Walmart will start selling only American made products. Dont hold your breath waiting for the opening
      • Max Reiner 6 mths ago
You mean products that were made in Asia for which the tags and packaging were stamped "Made in the USA."
      • Marshall M 6 mths ago
That was exactly what Sam Walton designed and intended. His kids listened to the Chinese dollar signs and sold out.

      • Cajun One 6 mths ago
Wat to go guys!! Of course, they would be just as useless as all the other crap in his store!

It is unbelievably important for the US to start making goods in the US! We need jobs fools
      • Charles 6 mths ago
@John, I suggest that you send your comment to Mr. Jeffrey Immelt, the Chairman and CEO of General Electric. Mr. Immelt is also the head of Obama's Job Council. General Electric has moved thousands of jobs to China since Obama became President. I agree with you, we need to make things in the USA. Ask Mr. Immelt why he allows GE to close US manufacturing operations instead of expanding them.
      • Willow Tree 6 mths ago
John, we need jobs. Making useless stuff that will still be on the shelves in 2012 is futile. Those jobs won't be around long.

They will have to end NAFTA,CAFTA,WTO first. Nobody but Ron Paul is willing to do that!

Many of the things I get at my local AutoZone store are USA. Champion Spark plugs, wires, filters and so forth. At least the last time I looked that is.

    • Carley  •  Shreveport, United States  •  6 mths ago
Look at labels. There actually are some everyday products still made in USA. If everyone would be more conscious of what they are buying, less of the foreign stuff would get sold. I think twice, do I really need this? Can I wait until, perhaps companies have gotten the message, before I purchase this product? Most Americans have what they need and just spend money on impulse.

I couldn't believe it. The other day I went to Wal-Mart and bought drinking glasses, Made in the U.S.A.! Also need a microwave cover thingy and U.S.A. made too.

How come Obama can have Made IN USA products, but WE THE PEOPLE are stuck with Chinese knock-offs?
    • eric  •  6 mths ago
“If a product isn’t made here, we won’t brand it and sell it,”
This should be the standard line for all companies.
Don't care for Oblockhead, but that is the attitude this country needs to start taking.
Yeah our markets will be open to other companies...but don't think for a minute we will buy it.
Politicians have shown they can't save this country. We as a country need to start taking it back! If you work for a company as a purchasing agent...get on board. If you own a compnay...get on board...If you manufacture a product...start telling stores, this is made here and I want it promote it MADE IN USA very large so everyone knows.

If the store makes a profit, is Obama going to spread the wealth?
    • linda s  •  6 mths ago
Stop buying garbage from China! They took our jobs, they take our natural resources, they own our country. They want you to be mindless consumers of their mindless, contaminated products! Fight back, do Not participate in Black Friday or the madness. Purchase from local business, example: hair salon services, car washes, yard treatments. etc.

Made in the USA my #$%$ The government has been systematically shutting down american manufacturing for years. Everybody knows what needs to be done to turn this thing around, but we have boneheads in congress, bought and paid for by special interest groups. We need to find people who don't want to be in congress, to run for office.
    • Michael  •  Chardon, United States  •  6 mths ago
OK...then can we make it easier to actually make things in the U.S.A.? The regulations for manufacturing anything in the U.S.A., whether it be a large corporation OR a small business have strangled any incentive. The multiple layers of government intervention in private businesses are outrageous. What was once supposed to be a safegaurd for fair practices has become a red tape nightmare of government bureacracy.

I have my own business and i can say that i could have made 50% more profit last year if i had supplied my inventory from China, yet i still dont. In fact i exported over 500k in US made products last year. Not much but it's not a huge company. I am constantly being contact by Chinese companys and i blow them off everytime,I feel i am doing my part

Didn't Obama recently make an executive order about cups, t-shirts, etc for government employees? Maybe he was in his Canadian built bus while he did so, or perhaps it was while escorting the South Korean after signing 3 more Free Trade Agreements benefitting foreign workers.
