Obama’s support among Florida independents plummets after debt debate

Obama could have trouble in Florida, according to a new Quinnipiac poll that finds that the president’s approval rating among independents in the swing state dropped 9 percentage points to 33 percent following the announcement of a deal to raise the debt ceiling.

Quinnipiac looked at two sets of poll numbers: those from July 27 to July 31, before the agreement was announced, and those from Monday and Tuesday, after the agreement had been announced and was making its way through the House and Senate. During that time, Obama’s overall approval rating remained constant at 44 percent. But he saw a precipitous drop off in support among independents.

Last week, 42 percent of independents said they approved of the job Obama was doing as president, and 54 percent disapproved. But among those polled Monday and Tuesday, 61 percent said they disapproved of the job he was doing, and just 33 percent disapproved.

The last time Quinnipiac polled Florida voters, in May, the president was viewed much more favorably. He had a 51 percent approval rating, and Independents approved of his performance 47 percent to 45 percent. (RELATED: Republicans more upset with debt ceiling deal than Democrats)

The loss of approval was evident in Obama’s performance in head-to-head match ups against some of his possible Republican opponents. Obama had a lead over Mitt Romney last week, with 46 percent of Floridians saying they would vote to reelect the president and 41 percent saying they would vote for Mitt Romney. But polling done on Monday and Tuesday found Obama and Romney tied, with each getting 44 percent of the vote. Obama also saw a slide in his match up against Rick Perry. His 13-point lead last week over the possible Republican contender disappeared: polling on Monday and Tuesday found Obama leading by only 5 points.

Quinnipiac surveyed 674 registered Florida voters by telephone interview from July 27-July 31. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.8 percentage points. 743 registered voters were interviewed by telephone from August 1-August 2. That sample has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.

No surprise here. At the rate Obama is losing support, he'll be lucky to carry Chicago in the election.

He is losing FL, which has a BIG retirement community because of FED POLICY...it has seriously eroded senior income by cutting interest rates to almost zero...those old folks CDs are coming due and 5-7% long term CDs are being renewed at 1%...THAT cuts a 100K investment's return from 5-7 thousand dollars to ONE THOUSAND, that amounts to $400 a month to $500 cut in monthly income. Meanwhile expenses like utilities, homeowners dues, taxes and insurance continue to climb, along with food and gas... This 'redistribution' of wealth is literally ROBBERY...He will PAY for this at the polls, as will MANY Demonocrats who love the FED.

I want EVERY single person here to check out the speech Marco Rubio gave the other day at the Reagan Library. He sided and blamed with both Democrats and Republicans. This man is a real leader. Please go to youtube and look it up. I showed it to my workers yesterday and half of them left with tears in their eyes. Notice he used no teleprompter, it was all off the cuff.

I believe that the President's undoing is what someone mentioned in the message above:he doesn't know what he's doing.

Hold your positions men, we can do it, don't give up! A few more Republicans to the Houses and one to the Presidency and we are in like flint. You people are going down, just think about it, we are in control What happened, after nearly 100 years of socialism we finally have a chance to do some good. We would do away with medicare, Medicaid, health care, ADC, unemployment, cut way back on social security, privatize it, do away with it or something. Even most of the disabled vets should not be getting theirs, most of them could do something besides live off us hard working people. This would balance the budget and reduce inflation, and cut back on medical cost. Old people are the cause of inflation, if they did not have all these entitlements the rest of us could live a much better life, they drive the cost of everything up, increase taxes. Also if they can work, at anything like even sweeping the streets, make them work if they want something. It's not my fault these people never saved a dime and ever gave a thought about getting old and retiring. Heres a simple solution, go live with your kids. Just like they did 100 years ago and it worked rather well. Capitalism, one man's lost, is another man's gain. Don't bail anyone out, let them all go under. If they can no longer afford that house then another man will pick it up at a cheap price and make a nice profit. Do away with all health care including medicare, medicaid, ADC, Social Security, unemployment benefits, and all other entitlements, and everything will be affordable due to supply and demand. Plus taxes will go down. government will get smaller. If a person is on welfare and has two babies they should be required to be castrated or get their tubes tied and drueg tested to keep getting welfare.Pay your own way or do withoutNow is also the time to take a long hard loat unions!ok As far as unions go, they have to realize if we are to get manufacturing back we need to get pay to about $12.00 an hour for any manufacturing job in the U.S., otherwise we are doomed. Once all the manufacturing job are gone what are the unions going to do? Organize the service people? #$%$ And I'm not crazy, cause at that Chevy Cruz plant in Michigan they are paying them $10.00 an hour. And that UK company going to do the same to build those electric cars in St. Louis and we can get affordable cars. And look whats happening in Washington. It will work out for the best, just hang in there.
