Obamageddon Is In Effect As POTUS Arrives In L.A. For ‘Ellen’ & Fundraisers – Update

UPDATE, 3:36 PM: Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton will be facing off tonight in another Democratic debate but L.A. drivers are about to hit the traffic wall we call Obamageddon. Yes, Air Force One has just landed at LAX and President Barack Obama is on his way to a taping of Ellen DeGeneres’ show over in Burbank in the next hour. Look up, you might see Marine One flying over the city.

All of which means there will likely be some dancing between an already farewell touring Obama and the daytime talker host. It also means LAPD have locked down the streets as big swaths of the city are being subject to road closures and delays. There’ll be even more of that around Hancock Park and Beverly Hills tonight. (See the full list of road closures for today and tomorrow below)

POTUS is skipping watching his potential successors’ face-off for two big-ticket fundraisers tonight in the tony neighborhood. With tickets up to $33,400 a pop, Obama’s out in L.A. for the 21st time since taking office to hover up more Hollywood cash for the Democrats – AKA, talk is cheap Bernie and Hillary, elections are expensive. The President jets out of town on Friday morning around 10:45 AM.

PREVIOUS, FEB. 10 PM: President Barack Obama is back in L.A. tomorrow to grab some Hollywood cash and to play onscreen softball with Ellen DeGeneres. And for the 19 hours that POTUS is in town, you know what that means, Angelenos – the road closures and traffic delays of Obamagaddon all over the City of Angels are back too.

The President arrives at LAX around 3:25 PM tomorrow afternoon as part of a multi-day trip to California. He’ll head east to Palm Springs on Friday for a meeting of Association of Southeast Asian Nations leaders next week. His first LA stop is at 4:25 PM over on the Warner Bros lot in Burbank to tape a sit-down with DeGeneres that will run on her syndicated show on February 12. In the past, POTUS has used Marine One to get that far across town from the airport, and it looks like he might do so tomorrow, but the Secret Service and the LAPD never give out the precise details of his travel for obvious security reasons.

We do know that there will be some snarls later in the evening Thursday around Hancock Park as two separate fundraisers are scheduled there. With tickets ranging from $1,000 for the cheap seats and $33,400 for co-hosts the first 6:55 PM event is a reception at the home of Scorpion EP Danny Rose and husband/entertainment lawyer Aaron Rosenberg. John Legend will be performing at the event. After that HBO President of Programming Michael Lombardo and partner Sonny Ward are co-hosting a more intimate and pricey dinner and discussion with the President at the Hancock Park home of Leah and Sam Fisher at 8 PM. The Fishers and Lisa and Ken Soloman, the Tennis Channel CEO, are also co-hosts at the $10,000 to $33,400 a ticket gathering.

Tomorrow’s visit is Obama’s 21st time coming to the Hollywood ATM since taking office in 2009.

The President is staying over night before jetting off southward Friday morning. If tradition is any indication, Obama will likely getting together off book with a local pal or two afterwards at his westside hotel – like he did on a L.A. visit last June with Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg.
