Occupy Wall Street Has No Idea What It's Protesting For

    Michael Moore Joins Disorganized Fray

COMMENTARY | The underground movement known as Occupy Wall Street was originally considered nothing more than a nuisance, but is now looking more and more like the anti-tea party than a passing fad. Recently strengthened by support from Michael Moore, New York labor unions and a cadre of followers in cities across the nation, the movement has taken on a life of its own.

While the idea of protesting greedy government bureaucracies with a leftist spin is tempting in itself, documented police brutality at the first organized protest lent national attention and made the group look like peaceful protesters who were being oppressed by a vindictive New York Police Department.

My primary concern is that, according to The Huffington Post, the group intends to keep protests going until Wall Street meets its demands. If you ask the group what its demands are, you will be told members are still thinking of them. If I call in to a radio station to request a song, I find it helpful to have a song picked out before I call.

This group is going to find it hard to keep the line open while the last song ends and other groups call in with thousands of requests. Of course Wall Street is not a radio station, but without a clear direction I feel like anyone who is influenced by this movement is just as likely to join a cult.

The whole idea of asking for change without a clear schematic is eerily similar to the 2008 presidential campaign of Barack Obama. After Occupy Wall Street finally hashes out its list of demands, the manifesto will likely contain a lot of extreme measures that have failed before and a lot of extreme measures that aren't supported by the majority of the people who have marched with the group.

Even though the current administration has done a poor job of implementing the correct policies to help the economy and take a bite out of unemployment, I still consider the American jobs scene to be a viable place to work and find work. Anyone who tries can get a job and afford a decent living. It just doesn't seem like a perilous situation from where I'm sitting.

It is shocking and scary for me to see so many people protesting for social change when the majority of American citizens will never know what hard times really are. When I hear about homeless people using the Internet at Starbucks, it becomes obvious to me that a lot of people's priorities are out of line.

It is too easy for the powers that be to write them off if they spend so much time complaining and so little coming up with a viable alternative to the status quo. If Occupy Wall Street wants to get anywhere, it needs to set realistic goals and map out a clear non-partisan plan to reach them. Right now they look like my Roomba vacuum that bumps into furniture all day long but never really cleans the floor.

There are clear demands! Jesus Christ, if I'm to write an article about something, I find it pretty helpful to at least Google what I'm writing about beforehand. What's more is what I find that's shocking and scary is the ignorance that's running rampant throughout this country right now. Really, who are you to judge the "hard times" of the "majority of Americans?" People like you make me sick.

Wel I don't know exactly where you are getting your info from. Maybe Hannity or the other media that is owned by the same RICH people that are being protested. You know the ones that enjoy making money off of people who are misfourtunate. And as an unemployed person that has made just two mistakes leading to misdemenor charges in my young life. With a credit score that is not excellent. I have found kinda difficult to find work. Meanwhile the people put in power to help us find it apropiate to place their children into jobs right outah school. Back to my original point Mr. Justice, I have read what the protesters want. I have seen how they assemble into small groups and hash out their stratigies. And I can honestly say that if our so called representitives in D.C. did that. We would be in a better position. But alas, something tells me you will just chalk me up to some kind of moonbat or whatever other talkin point you se fit. But I never was one to fit into a certain mold. Well there is one. That involves staying away from a seven deadly sins. Two of which being GREED and VAINITY. Which I saw plenty of standing on some balconies sippin champaign, laughing at the protestors. I am in no postion to even suggest the end times are near. Nor would I ever try to guess Gods plan. But I do know we all will be judged for our actions when our time comes. And all I ask is that EVERYONE can have a clean conscience when that time comes. The ME era is ending. ARE YOU READY TO HELP YOUR FELLOW MAN?

      #OCCUPYWALLSTREET GRIEVANCES

      1.Campaign Finance Reform
All votes are no longer equal in our Democracy. Money must be put outside of politics, or politicians will continue to pander to those who contribute the most to their campaigns, rather than their own constituencies. Specifically, we abhor the decision by the Supreme Court in Citizens United v. FEC. Corporations are NOT people.

      2.True Shared Sacrifice
While corporate profits have been skyrocketing and the wealthy have been getting wealthier, the average worker’s income has dramatically dropped. While the cost of living has exponentially increased, wages have not followed. It has been shown time and time again that tax cuts for the wealthy are NOT effective. Taxes on those who practice greed should be raised.

      3.Equality in Justice
This great nation was founded on liberty, but also, on equality. When the balance of justice is swayed in favor of those with wealth, the very fabric of this nation is torn apart. The decision of a judge should not be based upon the race, creed, or wealth of an individual, but rather, the content of the case.

4.The End of the Revolving Door
The Obama administration was supposed to bring change and hope to our country, but instead, brought us into despair and insecurity. Those working in his administration are the very people whom we are fighting against. Those who enter Washington should not be representatives of the elites, but representatives of the people. One cannot simply enter an administration, reap its benefits, and simply exit.

There demands would make a hell of a list. The main thing is that they are tired of big money running the government and the country for thier own benifit. It seems the only thing the people have a right to do is vote. Of course you make sure that all the cantidates are already in your pocket so you can't loose either way. Do you really think you can write some tripe like you have just written and this justifies your position? Look at it this way. All these people are the ones listening to your dont tax the job creators bull. They dont believe that and they don't believe you. Why the hell does your picked politicians stand up and recite the same bull, that no one believes, over and over. The people are fed up with a country controled by big money. Thats it in a nutshell . While I'm at it this Justin Beiber kid that flies around in his own private jet. Is he one of your job creators. Your nothing but a shill writing an article that is pure political propaganda. That crap aint working no more. Thats why the people are protesting and it's gonna get bigger. Get the picture now?

I think some of those misdirected homeless folks sitting at Starbucks are posting up on here at this very moment. They call themselves social activists, but you know they never ever seem to get anything of worthwhile acitivity accomplished. I seen one of these idiots on television last night screaming down with capitalism. Someone interviewing him ask what it should be replaced with. He stood there with his mouth open his brain stuck in neutral and not another gear available he could shift it into.
      • leonard 7 mths ago
Mike ,your the only one misdirected ! IT sounds like your part of the problem Mike

Sounds an awful lot like the beginning stages of the Tea Party to me!

Except the Tea Party is funded by the very underhanded corporation they are protesting against. -Yet another corporate robo-poster.
