Officer Killed, Another Injured in Shooting Attack on Pennsylvania Police Barracks

A late-night shooting at Pennsylvania State Police barracks left one trooper dead and another injured in what police describe as an ambush targeting the officers, sparking a multi-state search for potential shooters.

"I know a lot of people are wondering if the threat is resolved," said Commissioner Frank Noonan, at a press conference, "It is not."

“We can't say that the situation is completely in hand," he said.

The shooting happened at 10:50 p.m. Friday at the barracks in Blooming Grove, Pike County, a township of 4,000 people 35 miles east of Scranton.

Thus far, police do not have information about what the motive was, a description of the shooter, or whether there are multiple shooters. But Noonan said "this attack seems to be directed particularly at the Pennsylvania State Police."

Many of the surrounding roads and interstates were blocked overnight, Lackawanna County dispatched its SWAT team and helicopters provided air support.

UPDATE, 10:46 a.m.: The Times-Tribune reports that State police are talking with a person of interest identified as Jeffrey Hudak.

UPDATE, 3:32 p.m.: In an afternoon press conference, Commissioner Frank Noonan said that no suspects were in custody.
