It's Official: The CW Is Developing a Combined Spin-Off of Arrow and The Flash

The CW appears to slowly be transitioning to an "all comics, all the time" approach. According to Deadline, the network is in the early stages of developing a combined spin-off of Arrow and The Flash, a project that CW President Mark Pedowitz first teased in January at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. The potential series, which hails from Arrow creators Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Marc Guggenheim, would feature several DC Comics characters who unite to form a team.

The project—which is not part of the current pilot development cycle—is set to star Brandon Routh as his Arrow character Ray Palmer/the Atom and Wentworth Miller as his Flash character Leonard Snart/Captain Cold. Meanwhile, Victor Garber will be dropping by to reprise his role as Dr. Martin Stein, a character who recently debuted on The Flash. And if you're thinking, "Hey, that's a lot of dudes! Where are all the ladies?" then you'll be pleased to know that Arrow alum Caity Lotz is also set to star, although it's unclear who she'll be playing on account her character, Sara Lance/Canary, being killed off in Arrow's Season 3 premiere.

As per Deadline, the project could go straight to series with a possible target premiere date of midseason 2016, and will feature three major DC Comics characters who have never appeared on a TV series before (let's hear your best guesses as to which characters those might be in the comments!).

When the news of this potential series first broke at the TCA winter press tour, Pedowitz told reporters that he was happy with The CW's current genre/non-genre programming ratio, but that he was open to adding another series within the DC Comics universe as long as there was no audience fatigue and the series could stand on its own. What do you think: Do we need/want another DC spin-off? And who do you think Lotz would/should play?
