It's Official: Gracepoint Won't Return for Season 2

Gracepoint is dead in the water.

The Fox series, a remake of the U.K. drama Broadchurch, will not return for a second season, reports Entertainment Weekly.

Starring Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad) and David Tennant (Broadchurch) as two detectives investigating the murder of a young boy in a small coastal town, Gracepoint was always billed as a limited series, so the news of its "cancellation" shouldn't come as a surprise, especially since last week's series finale drew only 4 million viewers and a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49.

However, if Gracepoint's ratings had been higher, it's possible that Fox—which has had a rough fall in the wake of Red Band Society, Utopia, and Mulaney all failing to woo viewers—might've ordered a second season of the mystery drama. After all, Broadchurch was renewed for a second season despite its open-and-shut nature; Season 2, which will follow a brand-new case, will premiere in the U.S. on Wednesday, February 4. At least Tennant still has that paycheck to look forward to.
