Officials investigate missing ammo at Fort Bragg

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Officials at Fort Bragg say an investigation is under way into the disappearance of nearly 14,000 rounds of ammunition at the Army base.

Staff Sgt. Joshua Ford, a spokesman for the 82nd Airborne Division, says the ammunition went missing from the 1st Brigade Combat Team at Fort Bragg.

The Fayetteville Observer reports (http://bit.ly/rcSmoA ) that Ford believed the ammunition was taken overnight on Tuesday. The 1st Brigade team was placed on lockdown for a few hours Wednesday night while officials conducted a search.

The missing ammunition can be used in an M-4 or M-16 assault rifle.

Ford says the 82nd Airborne Division and military police are taking the matter seriously and that "any amount of ammunition that goes missing" has "got to be accounted for."

Back in the day, when I stood guard duty,if I had lost my ammunition it would have created an uproar, tons of paper-work,those exalted on high would've frowned down on my sorry arse, and would have sent me a world of hurt, and regret.14 Thousand rounds! AS Dorothy said,OH MY!

I have seen military issued amo many times at gun clubs etc. These rounds cost .30 cents to a dollars per round in a store. They were stolen most likely buy Joe Schumateli. he sold them and is using them to hunt and plick and target practice. I hope they catch the people that got . Too I pray some other Situation has not acured and we will hear about some mall getting shot up.

Who ever was on guard the day that happened will be held accounted for, no way in hall all that ammo can just pic up and walk away. How the U.S.Army done things when I was in it, if any Soldier looses a TA-50 and or Accountable Fire Arms. Ammunition and Demolition will not leave base until all is accounted for no matter if it takes 72 hours to 1 week, no GI Joe leaves until all is accounted for, so tell me some one gave this GI Joe some Benjamins.

You can buy .223 rounds for 30 cents apiece. $4200, The Government probably pays half that $2100....Major heist right?

those flights that were suggested yesterday in the NBC hacking flight 4782 and flight 5736 are existing flights. I checked them lastnight. One runs from Fort Hood, to Dallas/Ft Wrth, and one runs from Jax/Washington...theres also a flight with same numbers from NY/Wash. Just sayin. Even when pranks are done I like to check any validity. Just sayin. Check for yourself. I dont fly ...never have never will.

This was an inside job. You just don't walk onto Fort Bragg and leave with 14,000 rounds of ammo. Someone is either stashing it or selling it for some extra money. Figure the 5.56 goes for 6.99 per 20 rounds at the store, if sold at retail that would be $4,900. They'll probably get around $2,500 for it. Not much of a return for committing a federal felony or if they are military, a court-martial.

No big deal! This is a simple theft of $3000 worth of merchandise, which can be purchased online by anyone over eighteen. It is not an isolated property security issue for the Government - theft of Government equipment and supplies costs taxpayers billions every year. The Feds can't keep up with equipment and supplies no more than they can manage a $4 trillion dollar budget!

Not to worry this is just phase 2 of "Fast and Furious" Obama and Eric Holder are just setting this part of the weapons being sold to the mexican and central american cartels drug lords. The FBI and CIA are all over this, it has the blessing of obama and eric holder although each one will lie about it and the other will swear to it that they were not in the knowledge loop. Makes a person proud of our so called leaders. Ahhhh what bliss we all can sleep well.
