Ohio landlord fights 'White Only' pool sign ruling

it's pathetic that racism still exists in this country, seriously white people get over yourselves

This landlord is even more retarded than that kid that got fired for stealing twenty cents from his job. Maybe he can get a job at Hy-Vee.

ok so this woman was right is her defense but wrong in the way she limited usage to her pool. You can not discriminate against race, familial status, disability or all the other reasons. What this woman should of done was have a sign indicating anyone with chemicals in there hair must shower to remove them or wear a swim cap to prevent the pool water from getting cloudy...This dumb redneck should be required to pay up...as a landlord you accept that you must follow guidlines and we take classes to ensure we know all of the rules of Fair Housing.

What is there to reconsider? How can posting a "White Only" sign NOT discriminate against ANY nonwhite? Where has this landlord been hibernating for the last fifty years?

this country is going no where with racism until white, black, yellow, tan, beige, colored people realize they are all AMERICANS, not African American, not Chinese American, not Polish American, not Muslim American, but AMERICAN and that goes for you too Oprah Winfrey.

ok take the sign down its offensive to blacks then out law t-shirts that say black power its very offensive to white ppl then outlaw shirts that say madd there are reformed drunks thats offened by it then out law stickers on cars that make fun of cops or any elected person i assume thats offensive to them yes this person is a bigot yes the sign offens me to but we live in a free country where i may not like what you say but i will defend to the death your right to say it

Sunscreen can make a pool cloudy too. So why doesn't he ban white people or light-skinned black people?

When I first heard about this story, I thought she was just trying to display it like some sort of antique "artwork". Tacky, but legal.

I didn't know she was actually trying to ENFORCE it. Yeah, THAT is obviously discrimination any way you slice it. Throw the book at her.

The LANDLORD posts a "whites only" sign at a DUPLEX? Why even rent to them in the first place? I know, that would STILL be discrimination, but if he TRULY feels that way about blacks, couldn't he have just said, "we've already found a tenant?"

I'd respect this woman more if she just came out and said: "I don't want black people in my pool simply because they are black", not give a flimsy excuse about the chemical in our hair making the water "cloudy".

Most women regardless of ethnicity put chemicals in their hair, whether to dye it, change the texture, style it or whatever. If hair chemicals was really an issue the problem could have been remedied by simply making anyone who was going to use the pool wear a swimming cap.

I must be gullible I never imagined in this era there would be whites only signs still posted. I was born in 1966 and was brought up to be weary of black people because they pose a threat to whites and all kinds of lies wear put into my head so I was racist for the first 14 years of my life until I met a black kid in school who I thought seemed pretty cool and over time became friends with him this kid would always be friendly to everyone and I learned valuable lessons from him about how to treat other people. I believe we were taught over generations to fear black people because if you held me in slavery and my family you should fear me. When I do something wrong I fear retaliation because I know that's what my girlfriend is going to do lol. but I find in the many black friends I have that its not about what happened long ago to there ancestors that bothers them Its about the racism that exist today If you want to live truly free you can not fear another race try giving them a chance to show you that there beautiful wonderful people and that's all there asking for.

The sign was wrong. If you have a prob. with the chemical then note that in the rules and reg. of using the pool. Some say only swimsuits allowed no blue jean shorts,preshower,etc. Like a tanning bed only certain oils/lotions allowed due to ruining the bed.

Well, sorry ...public pools always have signs stating to shower first because lotions, and conditioners and stuff cause the pool water to get cloudy but I never do and it never happens...maybe if there were like 100 people in the pool all with conditioners and lotions on then maybe it might get cloudy but this girl's hair wasn't going to go any damage....what an uneducated way to go about this. Just should of posted a sign about showering first....doesn't matter what skin color you are ...What if I hadn't showered in days and was nasty, I'm white...is that okay then? ....I think I would be nastier in the pool than any kid with hair conditioners or what not.

well I have a big problem with this,The State of Ohio is showing it's true color. This landlord is not the only one here in the state that feels this way. How can you deny a person the right to swim in your pool. How stupid or ignorant does she think we are. There is NO-WAY one person is going to cloud the pool with what is in their hair? It could be possible that some of the tennants don't want any one of color to swim in their pool. They must be afraid that when they jump into the water they will come out a different color than they were when they jumped into the pool.It is okay for her to rent an apartment to her parents, they pay the rent on time I assume.But you do not have the right to swim in the pool.People of color are anyone that is not White. So she is discriminating against more than African Americans, whom have never come from Africa. They were born here in the United States.Some of us are decendants of slaves. And if it weren't for them, our country would not be where it is today. There are not enough chemicals in her head to turn the water cloudy.And I hope that the Commission will stand by it's ruling! I don't see stupid marked across their heads as the LandLord seems to think everyone is. Give us a BREAK! Just be honest and say "I am prejudice, and I don't want them around. If the landlord could get away with it she would not even rent to people of color.And if there are people of color there they should find another place to live. If she has her way and wins the pool is just the beginning.....I wonder if this is considered a hate crime? O Yes! what about people that use sunscreen so that they can tan? It seems that the chemicals in the sun screen would cause more damage than what-ever this young lady would have on her swim cap because she doesn't want her perm ruined by the Chlorine that is used in the pool. So then my question is what type of chemical on the swim-cap would cause the pool water to become cloudy? If there is a problem then take it up with the company that makes the swim caps.
