    The Oklahoma car accident attorneys at the law firm of Atkins & Markoff hereby alert the public of another fatality that occurred in a single-vehicle Oklahoma car accident that police have attributed to the driver being distracted because he was texting while driving. As a result of this fatal Oklahoma car crash, the attorneys at Atkins & Markoff advise the public to refrain from sending and receiving text messages while driving a vehicle.

    According to the Oklahoma State Police, this fatal Oklahoma car accident occurred at 1:25 a.m. on Saturday, January 21. The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 70 approximately five miles east of Durant, Oklahoma. A 21-year-old male was driving his vehicle containing three passengers at that time and allegedly texting when the crash occurred. As a result, the vehicle left the road to the right. The driver then over-corrected to the left and the vehicle rolled over. The driver was killed and the three passengers in the vehicle were injured.

    Sending and receiving text messages while driving is considered ‘distracted driving’ when this activity leads to an Oklahoma car accident and is recorded as such by the state government. According to the state, approximately 1,500 Oklahoma car accidents occur on an annual basis where one of the drivers involved in a crash was distracted by an electronic device.

    While Oklahoma law only disallows the use of electronic devices by drivers in the state who are 18 years old or younger, people who are distracted by an electronic device and who cause an Oklahoma car accident could be found negligent in an Oklahoma personal injury lawsuit that’s filed by anyone who has been injured in such a crash.
