How old? Popular site hits, and misses, CEO ages

A new online tool from Microsoft tells users how old they look. CNBC.com used it to see which CEOs could use some extra vacation time this summer.

Some of America's business leaders could spend more time caring for their appearance, according to a new online tool (or toy?) from Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT).

The site How-Old.net took social media by storm Friday, with users alternately impressed with their fresh faces and aghast at the suggestion of their estimated ages. The creators of the tool were surprised by the immediate response.

"We were shocked," Corom Thompson and Santosh Balasubramanian said in a blog post yesterday. "Within a few hours, over 35,000 users had hit the page from all over the world."

The post authors are engineers in information management and machine learning at Microsoft and said the project took just a day to develop.

CNBC.com used the tool to see who in the business world looks young for their age, and who could use a spa vacation.

How-Old thinks Pepsico (NYSE: PEP) chief Indra Nooyi, 59, looks good for her age, pegging her at 52.

Activist investor Daniel Loeb, who actually is 52, should maybe get more sleep. The site thinks he's four years older.

How Old Do I Look's algorithm thinks JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon, 59-looking good, considering his recent battle with cancer . The system guessed his age correctly.

There must be something in the water at Blackstone Group (NYSE: BX). CEO Steven Schwarzman is 68, but the How-Old algorithm guessed he was 49.

Despite a diet notoriously rich in junk food , the Oracle of Omaha looks none the worse for wear, according to the site. It estimates Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A)CEO Warren Buffett to be 74, a full decade under his age.

Job cuts in the last year and an impeding split could be worrying Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) CEO Meg Whitman. The algorithm put her age at 62, four years her senior.

BlackRock (NYSE: BLK) founder and CEO Larry Fink, 62, must be feeling relaxed after his firm posted better-than-expected earnings . How-Old guessed he was just 59.
